Nurse Practitioner MRP (NP-MRP) Perinatal and Paediatric
About the role
Position Summary Reporting to the Patient Services Manager, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) role will support and enhance an interprofessional team model inclusive of the NP scope of practice within the Perinatal and Paediatric Program. The primary role of the Perinatal and Paediatric NP will include Most Responsible Provider (MRP) for well-newborns and outpatient newborn follow-up in the hyperbilirubinemia clinic. Secondary roles may include roles within NP-MRP post-acute team and outpatient areas as assigned.
As An NP-MRP At Quinte Health, You Will
- Lead Patient Care as MRP: Take on the role of Most Responsible Provider (MRP), where you will have the authority to admit, discharge, and manage patients independently in a hospital setting. You’ll be at the forefront of patient care, guiding them through every step of their hospital journey.
- Practice at Full Scope: Utilize your advanced practice skills to the fullest, supported by access to comprehensive hospital resources.
- Collaborate in an Interdisciplinary Team: Work seamlessly with paediatrics, family medicine, specialties, subspecialties, and an interprofessional team to provide holistic and coordinated care.
- Shape Innovative Care Models: Be a partner in redefining the role of NPs as MRPs in a cutting-edge, collaborative approach to hospital medicine.
Required
- Master’s degree in nursing.
- Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) in the Extended Class (RN-EC), NP Primary Health Care Certificate or Acute Care preferred with relevant hospital experience.
- A minimum of 3 years experience. Experience with newborns and new families is preferred but not mandatory.
- Able to prescribe controlled substances as authorized by CNO.
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certificate.
Duties
- Manage patients independently within the legislated scope of practice, including admission, discharge, assessment, diagnosis, documentation, prescribing, ordering/interpreting diagnostics, and performing procedures.
- Respond promptly to changes in patient condition, ensuring safety, promoting optimal function, and enhancing quality of life.
- Collaborate with physicians, specialists, and the interprofessional team to develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans.
- Act as a clinical leader, resource, mentor, and educator to colleagues, learners, and team members.
- Lead and contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of clinical guidelines, pathways, and protocols grounded in current research and evidence-based practice.
- Participate in program planning, quality improvement initiatives, and system-level changes to advance patient care and outcomes.
- Champion person- and family-centered care, advocating for patients, families, and caregivers, with particular focus on vulnerable populations.
- Demonstrate strong communication, leadership, and professional accountability in all aspects of practice.
