As a Journeyperson 2 Parts Technician, you will be directly responsible for the over-all supervision and operations of the respective Transit location.
Primary duties include:
- Supervise, coordinate, and monitor the day-to-day activities of the warehouse.
- Manage all safety aspects to ensure safety compliance for the operation and staff.
- Monitor and evaluate staff performance and schedule staff coverage to meet operational needs.
- Maintain salary and time keeping using PeopleSoft.
- Train, instruct, and supervise Journeyperson 1 Parts Technician positions and ensure training is valid.
- Participate in Supply business unit client meetings.
- Maintain a high level of customer service to operating departments and suppliers.
- Participate in and implement systems improvement projects and maintain related warehouse records.
- Ensure compliance to all corporate policies and procedures.
- Participate in warehouse management planning and operational efficiency improvements.
Qualifications
- A valid Journeyperson Parts Technician certification (or equivalent Interprovincial Red Seal), as recognized by Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training is required.
- At least 5 years of related experience in a large-scale parts store's operation is required, 2 years must be a supervisory experience.
- A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalency) with no more than 6 demerits (OR a valid Graduated Driver's License (GDL) with no more than 4 demerits) and no current charges or suspensions pending is required.
- Previous experience working with computer systems that support warehouse operations, repair and maintenance will be an asset. For example: PeopleSoft, Asset Works (M5), Microsoft Office, Cummins Quick Serve, Ford Micro-cat, Kenworth E-cat.
- Experience with Calgary's light rail transit (LRT) parts and operations would be considered an asset.
- Experience setting up shift schedules and HM tie entry approvals will be considered an asset.
- Electrical and/or heavy-duty experience will be considered assets.
- At least 1 year of experience in cycle counting process and reconciliation will also be considered an asset.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a high degree of customer focus and the ability to build positive relationships with customers and staff.
- You have strong problem solving, planning, organizing, and decision-making skills.
Working Conditions: Technicians work in open-concept warehouses and mechanical bays, performing both computer-based and physical tasks. Duties include standing, walking, lifting up to 50 lbs, and operating pallet jacks and forklifts. Shifts range from weekdays/evenings to weekends, typically 9-12 hours. Work may involve outdoor exposure, and requires attention to detail, safe handling of parts, and regular interaction with customers and suppliers. Technicians may be subject to working alone requiring additional safety protocols.
Pre-employment Requirements
- A security clearance will be conducted.
- Must obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit
- Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
Pre-employment Drug Test: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.
