##Job Summary

Reporting to the Project Manager III – Integrated Support Services, this position combines practical construction experience with a range of health and safety training to support implementing health and safety measures, recognizing, assessing, controlling, and evaluating hazards and working toward building a strong health and safety culture.

The Operations Support Coordinator will oversee the work of staff and contractors, providing industry and work activity specific support, and advice, and exercising authority to audit work activities and enforce compliance at worksites.

##Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support operations and maintenance supervisory positions to implement and maintain an environment, health and safety management system.
  • Recognize, assess, control, and evaluate health and safety hazards relevant to the workplace.
  • Communicate with management, inspection authorities, and other groups on health and safety issues
  • Provide workers and other workplace parties with the relevant information and skills required for safe work
  • Keep accurate and confidential records related to vehicle and equipment training and make recommendations on corrective actions
  • Research, develop, design, and implement hands-on comprehensive training programs
  • Train new and existing employees on various vehicles, equipment, work practices and facilitate with onboarding of new staff
  • Develop, implement, promote, and audit safe vehicle, equipment, work practices and safety instructions and programs
  • Assess and evaluate employee operation of Regional vehicles and equipment
  • Assist in accident/incident investigations, provide recommendations on preventative action initiativesand maintain records and reporting
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

##Skills and Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree or college diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, Environmental Technician or related field.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Knowledge of and experience in providing training for Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and related regulations, Commercial Vehicle Operator Registration (CVOR) and Highway Traffic Act, and the Environmental Protections Act.
  • Knowledge of heavy and medium vehicles and construction equipment and tools.
  • The successful incumbent must be able to attain the National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO®) certification.
  • Strong facilitation, presentation, training, with a focus on adult learning techniques and field workplace environment.
  • Effective decision making, negotiation, problem solving, and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with various computer applications such as Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, OneNote, Outlook), Infor Public Sector, and SuccessFactors.
  • Certificate, Diploma or Degree in Adult Education would be an asset.

##Working/ Employment Conditions

  • You are required to oversee and perform designated duties in inclement weather and possibly during emergency situations.
  • Travel will be required between locations within Halton Region. The incumbent must provide their own transportation.
  • The incumbent will be required to drive a Regional vehicle and will be required to provide a copy of their driver’s license and a driver’s abstract, by their first day of employment
