Description:
Overview of role ILSC Education Group is one of Canadas’s largest and fastest-growing language schools, known for the quality, rigour and variety of programs that are tailored to best meet international student needs and interests. The Academic Coordinator plays a key role in the school, and together with the Academic team, are responsible for ensuring the ILSC mission of a transformative learning environment for students.
The Academic Coordinator is a key member of the Academic Team, reporting to the DoS, and working closely with the ADoS to ensure the continued alignment, development, and overall success of our campus. The Academic Coordinator position requires constant collaboration with the DoS, Teachers, and Student Services Team, to maintain effective communication of ideas and decisions. The Academic Coordinator is energetic, empathetic, approachable, and has strong people skills. They will act as a mentor within the academic team, guide teachers on ILSC policies, requirements, and expectations, support the DoS in academic functions, and inspire progressive ideas and continuous improvement within the organization.
The Academic Coordinator works closely with teachers on a daily basis, and is instrumental in supporting best practice in teaching, assessment, administration, and continuous professional development. The Academic Coordinator is responsible for modelling and mentoring teachers in classroom management, and ensuring effective teacher induction, training, and development for all ILSC ESL teachers. They will represent ILSC core values internally and externally, participating actively in sector Communities of Practice and Special Interest Groups.
Job Duties:
The duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

Collaborate with Director of Studies for effective teacher support and continuous teacher success

Collaborate with the Academic team to discuss resources and materials needs
-
Support the Academic Team in academic functions such as professional development
-
Communicate effectively with students
-
Assisting with and creating student placements in student database (Odyssey)
-
Programming Odyssey with session programs, courses, and classes
-
Assisting with student scheduling and timetables
-
Liaising with the Academic Team for consultation on specific cases
-
Train and guide Teachers in ILSC Curriculum and Assessment documents and practices
-
Guide teachers in resources and materials choices and needs to best support syllabus requirements and learning outcomes
-
Supporting Academic Team with the weekly orientation process for new students
-
Assisting with delivery of intake tests,
-
Assisting with academic processes for Day 1 Orientation, adding academic information to student profiles, creating student allocations and placements
-
Attendance Tracking
-
Reaching out to students based on Learner feedback comments, survey responses submitted during the 1st week of classes and end of classes
-
Keeping book inventories, and creating purchase orders for new stock. Restocking book room once deliveries arrive.

Providing teachers with classroom and student books
-
Ensuring prep rooms are stocked with teaching resources such as photo copy paper, whiteboard markets etc.

Support with general technical issues in the classroom

Stay attuned to sector support and opportunities available to teachers and students
-
Other duties as assigned
Essential Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes:

Strong English Language proficiency and knowledge of a second language is an asset

Excellent people and coordination skills
-
Ability to work autonomously as well as within a team
-
Ability to problem-solve under pressure or escalate as required
-
Excellent organizational, administrative and computer skills, including MS Office
-
Solid interpersonal and networking skills
-
Excellent work ethic
Education and Experience Required
-
Recognized Bachelor’s degree
-
TESOL Canada approved ESL teaching qualifications (or equivalent) preferred
-
Experience in an educational environment
-
Demonstrated focus on continuous personal and team professional development
Compensation and Benefits
$45,000-50,000 per annum
Comprehensive health benefits through SunLife, an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), as well as participation in the company’s RRSP matching program. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary bonus.
