WEEKEND CALL IN SNOW PLOUGH OPERATOR
Two (2) Temporary, Seasonal On-Call Position
Non-Union
The Township of Springwater, located in the heart of Simcoe County, is a mixed urban/rural municipality with growing urban settlements and a prosperous agricultural sector. The municipality is currently recruiting for two (2) existing temporary, casual seasonal Weekend Call-In Snow Plough Operators to work from mid-November 2026 to mid-April 2027.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
The usual responsibilities of the position are:
- The usual responsibilities of the position are:
- Operate heavy trucks equipped with winter control equipment;
- Maintain accurate timesheet material haul records and hours of work logs in accordance with municipal policy and provincial legislation;
- Perform regular safety inspections of all operated equipment and ensure departmental equipment is kept in good working order;
- Assist work crews in a winter road maintenance work environment; and
- Carry out other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 2-5 years’ related work experience, preferably in a public works operation.
- Completion of Secondary School Diploma, certificate in heavy truck operation or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Excellent knowledge of and experience with the operation of heavy trucks, snow ploughs, and winter maintenance equipment
- Ability to carry out manual labour requiring physical dexterity for construction and maintenance efforts of the department in all weather conditions.
- Good interpersonal, public relations, oral communication, time management and record-keeping skills are required.
- Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and safety procedures
- Availability for weekend shifts and willingness to work on a call-in, as needed basis which will involve early mornings, afternoons, evenings and weekends
- A Valid Class AZ or DZ driver’s license in good standing with a satisfactory driving record is required.
- Due to the responsibilities of the position, a police information check satisfactory to the Township of Springwater is required.
RATE OF PAY
Compensation for this position is $27.63 per hour (2026 rate) plus statutory holidays, standby pay and vacation pay as per the Employment Standards Act and applicable stand-by.
HOURS OF WORK
From mid-November 2026 to mid-April 2027, variable work hours will be determined on a call-in basis involving primarily weekend work with the potential of mid-week shifts if available. The schedule will be contingent on weather conditions to complement existing available man-hours up to a maximum of 24 hours per week. There are no guaranteed hours or a set working schedule, however standby pay will be applicable for available weekends and holidays. Shifts on weekends and statutory holidays are required.
