Senior Capital Markets Operations Specialist (Equity Settlements) Hybrid – Toronto, ON (hybrid) Full-time/Direct Placement Pay Range: $80-90k CAD
Job Overview We are seeking a Senior Capital Markets Operations Specialist to support global equity settlement and post-trade operations. This role is responsible for overseeing daily settlement activity, managing reconciliation and exception resolution, mitigating operational risk, and ensuring adherence to regulatory and internal control requirements. The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in equity settlements, reconciliations, and operational controls, along with a continuous improvement mindset focused on automation and process optimization.
Key Responsibilities Oversee daily equity trade settlements across domestic and international markets. Monitor and resolve settlement fails, reconciliation breaks, and complex operational exceptions. Serve as an escalation point for trade settlement and production-related issues. Perform and oversee reconciliations to ensure accuracy and timely resolution of discrepancies. Maintain and enhance operational controls, procedures, and documentation to support audit and regulatory requirements. Identify operational risks, recommend mitigation strategies, and support issue remediation efforts. Partner with internal teams and stakeholders across multiple locations to ensure seamless trade processing. Produce and analyze operational metrics, including settlement performance, exception volumes, and key risk indicators. Drive process improvements, automation initiatives, and the use of AI-enabled tools to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort. Provide guidance, training, and support to team members and assist with resource planning and coverage.
Qualifications 8+ years of experience in Capital Markets, Securities Operations, Post-Trade Operations, or Equity Settlements. Strong understanding of equity settlement, clearing, and reconciliation processes. Experience investigating and resolving settlement breaks, fails, and operational exceptions. Knowledge of settlement and depository platforms such as CDS, DTC, Euroclear, or similar systems. Experience with operational risk, controls, audit support, and regulatory compliance. Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, or team lead experience. Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills. Experience with process improvement, automation, and AI tools is highly preferred.
