Position summary

We are looking for a**Local Trade Compliance Officer (LTCO)**for our Québec site. Reporting to the Site Director and functionally to the National Trade Compliance Officer (CTCO), you will be the main point of contact for all matters related to international trade (exports, imports, controls, sanctions, customs).

Your main mission: ensure that local practices comply with ABB policies as well as Canadian and international regulations, while supporting teams in achieving their operational and strategic objectives.

Main responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and update local procedures for export controls, sanctions, and customs compliance.
  • Maintain an up‑to‑date summary of all policies, processes, and tools related to trade for the local unit.
  • Regularly inform management and teams of regulatory changes and the status of ABB’s Global Trade Program.
  • Implement awareness programs and deliver trade compliance training as needed.
  • Provide strategic advice and operational support related to imports and exports (documentation, archiving, regulatory requirements).
  • Prepare and submit, under the direction of the CTCO, applications for licenses or authorizations related to customs and export controls.
  • Ensure the retention of trade compliance records in accordance with legal requirements.
  • Support internal audits and Trade Reviews and follow up on corrective actions.
  • Promptly report any suspicion of regulatory violations to the appropriate internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with IT and operational teams to optimize the use of SAP GTS modules, where applicable.
  • Ensure proper classification of exported or imported products/software/technologies (ECN, ECCN, HTS), in collaboration with the classification team (PCE).

Desired profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in international trade, law, procurement management or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Significant experience in trade compliance (import/export, customs, export controls).
  • Knowledge of Canadian and international trade regulations.
  • Experience with SAP GTS or a similar ERP.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to solve complex problems.
  • Excellent communication and training skills.
  • Rigor, strong ethics, and ability to handle sensitive information.
  • Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency in French and English, both spoken and written. French is required. English is also required to communicate with customers outside Quebec on a regular basis.

Additional information

  • Hybrid work (remote work to be determined with the manager).
  • Ability to obtain a level 2 security clearance under the Controlled Goods Program (CGP).
