As a MSIP Advisor at Vancouver Coastal Health you will

  • Promote a safety culture to eliminate musculoskeletal occupational injuries.
  • Develop a musculoskeletal injury prevention program for VCH staff, in conjunction with other team members, based on a needs assessment. Perform activities such as reviewing the learning needs through observation of work activities, discussing with unit/department/site supervisor/staff, and analyzing departmental statistics and Worksafe BC data, including costs.
  • Select appropriate modules/materials and/or develops training modules/materials to reduce musculoskeletal injuries. Enhance the MSIP learning system by providing material in a number of formats, including training sessions and online courses. Utilize proactive facilitations skills to respond to the needs of the stakeholders.
  • Develop and/or update patient/client handling procedures by methods such as reviewing WSBC requirements, analyzing applicable VCH site statistics for musculoskeletal injuries, writing/revising procedures, and working with management to ensure that procedures are current and implemented as required.
  • Assess the effectiveness of musculoskeletal injury prevention programs by methods such as analyzing WSBC and injury statistics, and conducting periodic audits of work activities.
  • Participate in departmental and team strategic planning incorporating the organization’s vision, values, goals and corporate plan by methods such as identifying trends and opportunities, consulting with customers, analyzing outcome data, and providing input and/or recommendations to contribute to the reduction musculoskeletal injury issues, including development of policies and programs and assessment of educational needs which support quality client and family centred care.
  • Collaborate with other Workplace Health team members to coordinate activities related to musculoskeletal injury prevention by attending meetings and providing expert technical advice.
  • Participate in departmental planning by providing input with respect to the musculoskeletal injury prevention program's mandate and operational requirements.
  • Support frontline leadership training by participating in collaborative opportunities such as the Safety Coaching program. Participate in planning and delivery of frontline leadership training and provides ongoing support to staff to insure successful outcomes and drive a culture of safety throughout the organization.
  • Participate in the development of authority-wide policies relating to musculoskeletal injury prevention and related equipment by methods such as reviewing WSBC requirements, researching current literature and programs in other sites/health authorities, analyzing injury statistics for designated area, and drafting policies for approval.
  • Maintain and update knowledge of musculoskeletal injury prevention by methods such as reviewing journals, videos, publications and WSBC regulations/requirements, attending seminars/lectures, and identifying new theories/trends/programs to ensure that information provided to the organization is accurate, current and complete.
  • Provide consultative services to community groups by methods such as meeting with community members, providing information and referring to various resources to share musculoskeletal injury prevention knowledge.
  • Demonstrate effective Project Management skills when approaching a new task or initiative related to Program development and implementation.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Current full registration as an Occupational Therapist with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC (CHCPBC). Eligible for membership in the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT).

OR

Current full registration as a Physiotherapist with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC (CHCPBC). Eligible for membership in the Physiotherapy Association of British Columbia (PABC).

  • Local area travel requires use of a personal vehicle for which mileage is reimbursed.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.

As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks.
