About the role
Job Summary:
We are seeking a passionate and detail-oriented Horticulturist/Orchid Specialist to join one of our clients based in Langley BC, Bevo Farms LTD. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in cultivating, maintaining, and caring for various orchid species, along with a strong understanding of orchid propagation, pest management, and greenhouse operations. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work with one of nature’s most delicate and diverse flowering plants.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cultivate and maintain a wide variety of orchid species and hybrids in greenhouse or nursery environments
- Monitor and optimize growing conditions, including humidity, light, temperature, and watering schedules
- Propagate orchids through various methods (division, keiki, seedling, or tissue culture support)
- Identify and manage pests, diseases, and nutrient deficiencies using sustainable methods
- Maintain accurate records of plant health, treatments, propagation success, and inventory
- Assist in the planning and execution of seasonal displays, exhibitions, or sales events
- Collaborate with senior horticulturists and botanists on ongoing research or breeding programs
- Educate staff or visitors on orchid care, history, and conservation
- Ensure compliance with plant health regulations and phytosanitary standards (especially for export/import businesses)
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in Horticulture, Botany, Agriculture, or related field (preferred but not mandatory if hands-on experience is strong)
- 1–3 years of relevant experience working with orchids or in greenhouse/nursery environments
- Strong knowledge of orchid biology, taxonomy, and cultivation techniques
- Attention to detail, patience, and a passion for plant care
- Basic computer skills for record-keeping and reporting
- Physical ability to work in humid greenhouse conditions and lift/carry plant materials
Nice to Have:
- Experience in tissue culture or orchid breeding
- Participation in orchid shows or exhibitions
- Membership in local or international orchid societies
