What is the opportunity?
As a member of the Wills and Trusts Resource Group (WTRG), the Junior Consultant will be part of the principal resource facility providing technical assistance, analysis and recommendations to Canadian Wealth Management partners on various estate and trust account and disbursement issues. The position will support revenue generation through retention of funds by improving the client experience on estate settlements and the opening of new estate and trust accounts, and will help minimize risk and promote consistency in business practices across Canadian Wealth Management.
What will you do?
- Critically analyze, review and interpret wills and trust agreements submitted to WTRG related to the opening or change in an estate or trust account to identify issues and to provide a standardized summary of relevant information for the ongoing use by the business, utilizing knowledge of relevant jurisdictional laws and principles
- Analyze estate and trust issues raised by Canadian Wealth Management Operations utilizing knowledge of relevant jurisdictional laws and principles
- Make reasoned and informed recommendations to the Manager relating to the support of trust, estate and joint accounts and incapacity issues, including but not limited to proper disbursements, succession of trustees, issues related to registered plans, disputes and complaints regarding a specific account and all related issues surrounding trust and estate account
- Prioritize escalation of estate and trust account issues based on urgency of issue to provide timely responses
- Identify business risks, legal risks on any account escalated to WTRG and escalate issue to the Manager
- Play active role in developing relationship with business partners and providing a positive client experience
- Accountable to remain current in developments in the area of estate and trust law
- Identify trends in E&T related account issues and to assist the business in developing policies and procedures
What do you need to succeed?
Must haves:
- University degree or equivalent
- 3+ years’ experience in the estate and trust industry or legal training
- Ability to work well independently as well as in a team environment. Demonstrated ability to self-manage, think independently and analyze complex issues
- Strong interpersonal skills, time management skills, ability to work under pressure, sound judgment and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written, verbal and electronic communication skills
- Willingness to participate in continued learning of common law estate and trust concepts and principles
Nice-to-have:
- Interest in attaining trust designation (TEP, CETA)
