About the role
JOB SUMMARY\nThe mandate of Facility Operations is to operate and maintain all City facilities and City-managed buildings, which represents approximately 900 buildings and includes police, fire, libraries, child care, paramedic posts, recreation, culture, public works, City Hall and other administrative buildings, long-term care facilities, and facility outdoor property. The Facility Operations units deliver facility management and maintenance services within assigned geographic and/or specialty areas.\n\nYou are responsible for performing duties associated with the operation and maintenance of all City facilities.\n\n## EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE\n\nCompletion of Grade 10\n\nUp to one month of related experience\n\n## CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES\n\nCurrent Standard First Aid, CPR and/or AED certificates are assets\n\n## KNOWLEDGE\n\n * General facility cleanliness and safe work practices\n * Cleaning chemicals and disinfectants and safe application/procedures\n * Effective cleaning techniques\n * WHMIS\n * Customer Service principles\n * Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.\n\n## COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES\n\n * Able to communicate effectively with the general public and staff\n * Able to work effectively in a team environment\n * Good interpersonal and customer service skills\n * Polite and punctual\n * Possess the physical capability to perform the ongoing duties of the position\n * Prepared to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends\n * Presentable to the public\n\n_WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW_\n\n * Language Requirement: English oral, reading, writing \n * Police Record Check: The successful candidate will be required to complete a Criminal Records and Judicial Matters Check (Level 2) with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa’s satisfaction.; Police record checks completed by a third-party company will not be accepted. \n * You may initially be paid 95% of your starting rate of pay, in accordance with the collective agreement.; May include some evening and weekend hours to meet training and/or programming requirements.\n * Gender requirements may apply\n * Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements. \n * Please save a copy of the job poster.
