About the role

Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Supervisor, Health Information Management, this position is in the main Patient Registration office, the Emergency Registration office and The Lakewood Community Health Centre, and is responsible for providing courteous and professional reception and information service to patients, public and hospital personnel; interviewing patients or their representatives for registration purposes according to Provincial standards and ensuring information is accurate and complete. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining a positive public image to patients, hospital and staff. They must maintain confidentiality of all information always handled. ensuring appropriate insurance and preferred accommodation documentation is obtained. Registrations may also be done at bedside on the unit and in Triage for EMS patients using a Workstation on Wheels. Must maintain a positive public image to patients, hospital visitors and staff and provide professional service at all times in keeping with Covenant’s Mission, Vision and Values. Must be dependable and reliable. Position requires visits to Stelmach Community Health Centre along with the primary location-Grey Nuns Community Hospital.

Description:

This position is responsible for the registration of inpatients, emergency and outpatients onto the hospital's computerized systems. The Admitting Clerk provides visitors, patients and staff with patient information and general directions. This position is the first point of contact for patients coming into the hospital to be registered. The Admitting Clerk is required to facilitate the delivery of patients registration and information by providing a high level of support and assistance to staff and patients/families. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the CUPE 41 Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications:

High School diploma or recognized equivalent required. Medical terminology coursework is required.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Post-secondary education applicable to position – MOA/Unit Clerk/Admitting Clerk required, Medical Terminology - testing done prior to interview. Accurate typing speed of 40 wpm - testing done prior to interview. Strong computer skills required. Demonstrated proficiency in the English language, both written and oral required. Employs effective communication skills, promoting and adhering to excellent customer service in every interaction regardless of who it is with. Ability to function effectively in a highly dynamic environment, including working under pressure, adapting and responding to changing priorities and meeting deadlines. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Able to work all shifts as operationally required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Excellent attention to detail. Previous experience working with the public or in a hospital or medical office interacting with patient information is preferred. Previous Registration experience preferred. Previous Connect Care experience preferred.
