Position Information Under the supervision of the Manager of Case Costing and Statistical Reporting, the analyst will be responsible for the following:

  • Understand end user requirements and identify data solutions using multiple data sources (financial, statistical, coding, MoH guidelines, etc) to respond to requests;
  • Support data-driven decision making through analyzing, summarizing and presenting financial and statistical/utilization information to internal operational management (e.g. clinical managers/directors), the senior management team, clinicians, finance department, QBP working groups, and external stakeholders such as the Ministry of Health and Ontario Health;
  • Support the regular tasks of processing financial and patient activity data to deliver consistent, accurate, and timely information to the General Ledger and case costing system, including issue resolution and reconciliation;
  • Perform detailed analysis of source data systems and collaborate with other departments to develop and maintain efficient processes to transform data for use in Case Costing and Statistical Reporting;
  • Support the regular tasks of monthly and quarterly statistical reporting, including monthly financial statement preparation and quarterly reporting to Ontario Health and Ministry of Health (e.g. Trial Balance Reporting);
  • Assess, develop, and implement strategies to enhance data quality and ensure data meets Ministry and TOH standards;
  • Support various projects such as MOH & CCO case costing investigation, implementation of new data extracts, etc;
  • Prepare, edit and maintain workflows, processes, procedures and documentation.

Rotation/Shifts Days, 8 hour shifts.

Basic Requirements

  • University degree in financial management, business administration, or health informatics and a minimum of two years recent related work experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience in the health care environment.
  • Experience and knowledge of the Microsoft Suite tools (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Power BI, SharePoint, Teams, etc.);
  • Demonstrated experience with Report Writers (e.g. Crystal Reports, WebI, SQL) and a strong understanding of databases;
  • Familiarity with Hospital Information Systems (EPIC preferred)
  • Experience performing complex costing and statistical analysis with attention to detail, accuracy and ability to summarize results (healthcare preferred);
  • Experience with validating and auditing data and understanding data governance principles;
  • Excellent communication and interpretation skills for dealing with hospital management on a daily basis;
  • High level of flexibility, organizational skills, teamwork and a demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve issues;
  • Ability to multi-task and meet conflicting deadlines;
  • Must be able to work independently and in group situations;
  • Eligible to work in Canada.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience interpreting and applying CIHI Management Information System (MIS) Standards;
  • Familiarity with General Ledger reporting tools (Oracle and Hyperion Smartview) for the financial and statistical data;
  • Experience with data flows/data views, linking tables, querying databases, and building reports and dashboards with Power BI;
  • EPIC proficiency and/or certification;
  • Knowledge of the OCC (Ontario Case Costing) Standards;
  • Knowledge of Ministry of Health reporting as well as the Ontario specific methodologies (e.g. Ontario Healthcare Reporting Standards, Quality Based Procedures);
  • Knowledge and use of various data sources regarding the utilization of clinical resources (e.g. CIHI's databases; DAD, NACRS, OMHRS, NRS and grouping methodologies: CMG, CACS, SCIPP, and RPG);
  • Certification with the Canadian College of Health Information Management (CCHIM);
  • Active member of the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA);
  • Familiarity with Activity-Based Costing;
  • Proficiency in English and French - oral expression (advanced level) and comprehension (advanced level).
