About the Role:

The successful candidate will provide technical leadership, act as a civil/structural subject matter expert, and coordinate multidisciplinary design reviews (electrical, SCADA, protection & controls, etc.). This role also oversees EPC contractor engineering deliverables (IFR/IFC) to ensure alignment with company standards, industry codes, and regulatory requirements.
- This position plays a key role in ensuring safe, compliant, cost‑effective, and constructible design solutions throughout all project phases—from development through construction, commissioning, and closeout.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical support during project development, including scope definition, scheduling, cost estimation, execution planning, risk identification, and specification development.
- Lead technical reviews of EPC engineering packages (IFR/IFC) to verify accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company standards and applicable codes (AASHTO, IBC, ASCE, ACI, IEEE, NEC, NESC).
- Evaluate topographic surveys, geotechnical reports, hydrology studies, and civil/structural engineering designs (grading, drainage, roads, foundations, buildings, structural supports, and platforms).
- Identify design risks and constructability challenges, recommending effective and cost‑efficient solutions.
- Serve as the project engineering lead, ensuring alignment across all engineering disciplines, including electrical, SCADA, and protection systems.
- Collaborate with EPC contractors, responding to technical questions and facilitating timely design clarifications.
- Ensure EPC engineering meets all procedural, regulatory, environmental, and health & safety requirements.
- Monitor engineering progress to ensure adherence to budget and schedule.
- Support design review meetings and ensure compliance with internal review procedures.
- Lead specification development, review vendor quotes, conduct technical bid evaluations, and work with Supply Chain on procurement activities.
- Assist in permitting activities (ERCOT, FERC, NERC, local civil/site permits, environmental approvals) by coordinating required engineering inputs and ensuring EPC deliverables meet regulatory obligations.
- Partner with regulatory teams and utilities to ensure all interconnection designs comply with federal, state/provincial, and local requirements.
- Prepare and validate detailed engineering drawings to enable cost‑effective, constructible facility designs.
- Provide field support during construction, responding to RFIs and addressing engineering‑related issues.
- Support commissioning and testing of HV substations, PV electrical systems, and protection systems.
- Recommend enhancements to internal engineering standards, tools, and processes.
- Contribute to knowledge-sharing and mentoring within the engineering team.
Scope/Dimensions:
- Responsible for engineering oversight in assigned areas with significant corporate financial impact.
- Leads technical problem‑solving and coordinates with internal and external stakeholders.
- Provides informal leadership and guidance to multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Contacts (Working Relationships):
- Project Manager: Weekly interaction for updates on progress, cost, schedule, and risks.
- Supervisor, Facilities Project Engineering: Weekly updates on project status.
- External Engineering Firms: Daily interaction to oversee design activities.

- Minimum 10 years in oil & gas
- Minimum 3 years in renewable energy (solar or wind)
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng/PE) designation with APEGA or equivalent, or eligibility for registration.
- Strong understanding of civil/structural design practices and related software.
- Expertise in surveying, geotechnical, grading, hydrology, road design, structural design, and shallow/deep foundations.
- Knowledge of grid interconnection and utility‑scale renewable energy integration.
- Proven experience leading and mentoring multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
