The Health and Fitness Programs Supervisor (Group Fitness) provides direct leadership to execute all group fitness activities in the facility including group fitness programs and volunteer development in group fitness. The Supervisor provides superior experience to our members in the General Membership areas. Implementing our Member Insight Strategy and using our Membership Involvement Model, identifies initiatives to increase Membership on Roll, Retention, Satisfaction, and Philanthropic contributions in our Group Fitness Programs. The Supervisor must ensure that all members of this team are proactive in their ability to stay abreast of leading trends in health and fitness and demonstrate exceptional relationship building skills. The recruitment, development, certification, retention and deployment of a team of volunteers to work in this area is also a major focus of this department, as well as increased class offerings.

In this role, you will:

  • Develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate programs within the Association’s Membership Services Plan, which will attract and retain the diverse membership of the centre.
  • Provide direct program leadership to a variety of group program areas including group fitness classes and small group training, including TRX, Aqua-Fit, and Pre-Choreographed based classes for the equivalent of 60-70% of scheduled shifts.
  • Provide direct leadership as a YMCA Trainer in Fitness to deliver the YMCA Fitness Leader Certification and work towards the YMCA Training Educator Level.
  • Assist Director, Adult Programs to recruit, supervise, and develop effective staff and volunteer teams within the department.
  • Assist Director, Adult Programs in the development and management of all performance indicators and standards, including those related to group fitness, retention, and YMCA Priority Sam standards.
  • Provide leadership and support as a member of the Centre’s senior staff team. Act as an effective Service Leader.
  • Participate in task groups, special assignments, and opportunities that further the Association mission, vision, and strategic initiatives, including the Core Service Functional Group.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

You bring:

  • Diploma or Degree in Recreation Leadership, Kinesiology, Physical Education or related field preferred, or equivalent experience
  • YMCA certification in Group Fitness an asset
  • YMCA Trainer certification an asset
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification; AED training/certification an asset
  • Significant experience teaching a variety of group fitness classes, including Cycle Fit, Muscle Fit, Cardio Fit, and Yoga
  • Experience in development and implementation of new programs an asset
  • Previous experience in a supervisory role in group fitness programs, demonstrating strong leadership skills, and the ability to encourage, motivate staff and volunteers, acknowledging and appreciating contributions
  • Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff, and volunteers
  • Ability to speak multiple languages an asset
  • Proficiency in Aquatic Fitness, Adult Programs, and Choreography/Dance-Based and Fusion classes an asset
  • Flexibility regarding assigned hours of work, including days, mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends
  • Excellent understanding of diversity, inclusion, and equity, including the ability to identify and address barriers, work effectively with diverse stakeholders, and integrate equity into program design
