Section: Roads Operations
Division: Linear Infrastructure Services
Department: Community Infrastructure
Initial Reporting Location: Frobisher

Job Status: Permanent Position

Union Affiliation: CUPE 4705 Outside Unit
Hours of Work: 80 hours bi-weekly
Shift Work Required: Shift work may be required
Rate of Pay: $31.53 per hour

The start date will follow the selection process.

Characteristic Duties: Under the supervision of a Citywide Superintendent, with the day- to- day direction of the Sub-Foreperson “A” Line Painting and Sign Shop.

  1. Install signs, associated traffic control devices, assist in minor traffic signal maintenance and traffic signal installation.
  2. Oversee the activities of up to three (3) Employees in the performance of routine duties.
  3. Assist in the maintenance of records related to sign installation and maintenance.
  4. Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of CGS's Safety Manual and the applicable Provincial Legislation listed therein.
  5. Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of Secondary School (Grade XII) Education.
  • A minimum of three (3) years satisfactory experience.
  • Must be capable of overseeing a crew on signs and signal repair and maintenance.
  • Must have proven ability to operate efficiently, all types of small equipment employed in sign and signal repair and installation.
  • Keep necessary job records.
  • Must be able to effectively complete M.M.M.S. Crew Cards.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain written proof of training indicating that he/she is trained in the safe operation of a crane or similar hoisting device. The Incumbent must ensure that he/she carries their proof of training received while operating a crane or similar hoisting device.
  • Excellent use of English; verbally and in writing.
  • Satisfactory health, attendance and former employment history.
  • May require the use of a CGS vehicle on CGS business. Must be physically capable of operating a vehicle safely, possess a valid Class “DZ” driver's licence and have an acceptable driving record.

This job is also being posted as a development opportunity. Should there be no fully qualified candidate for this position, a candidate who can be expected to meet the required qualifications within a reasonable period of time may be considered for this position as a development opportunity.

Development opportunity rate of pay: $29.95 per hour. The successful candidate will be paid at the reduced rate until the minimum qualifications have been met.
