We have immediate openings for individuals who are driven to provide quality supports to the some of the most vulnerable members of our community. Shift Staffed Homes (SSH) is one of the many services within Adult Services at New Directions; providing person-centered support to individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities who may experience complex health issues. SSH strives to promote a sense of belonging and provide opportunities to engage in a meaningful life. This is achieved by creating a home environment that welcomes the participation of adults, supporting their pursuits, interests, goals, and helping maintain and strengthen the bond between the adults and their significant others. We provide an environment that is non-judgmental, safe and caring. Shift Staffed Homes operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Qualifications and Requirements for the Role:
- Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent
- Post secondary education in a related field: Disability & Community Support; Community Support Worker; Addictions Counsellor; Certified Healthcare Aide (is considered an asset for some unique positions)
- Previous experience working with individuals that have developmental disabilities, mental health issues, anxiety, self-injurious behavior/suicidal ideation, FASD, Autism, behavioral challenges and/or emotional difficulties
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License. Access to a vehicle would be considered an asset
- Available to work a variety of shifts on weekdays, weekends and holidays
- Able to provide three (3) references, preferably from direct supervisors
- Comfortable assisting with personal hygiene routines and activities of daily living
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Demonstrated knowledge, awareness and sensitivity to diverse cultures and traditions
- Current First Aid/CPR is considered an asset
- Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training is considered an asset
- Fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) is considered an asset
- An understanding of people who are marginalized
The starting salary for all casual positions is $17.3239 per hour.
The successful candidate will be subject to Criminal Record and Adult/Child Abuse Registry Checks; and must supply a satisfactory driver’s abstract.
This position is a part of the UFCW Local 832 Union Collective Agreement

New Directions for Children, Youth, Adults, and Families Inc. is a nonprofit, community-based organization. We provide a wide range of services and supports. These include everything from day programs to 24/7 staffed in-home settings for both adults and children. We also offer cultural and educational programs, job training, therapy, and clinical and counselling services.
We support children, teens, and adults in Winnipeg and Western Manitoba. Individuals may have an intellectual or physical disability. Or they may use American Sign Language to communicate. We encourage each person we support to be as independent as possible. We respect that they can make decisions to the best of their ability. We also advocate that others in the community respect these choices and opinions.
