Site: Toronto General Hospital (plus travel to multiple CLS and UHN locations)
Department: Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC)
Reports to: Manager
Salary Range: $39.12 - $48.90 per hour
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Status: Temporary Full-Time (approx. 12 months)

Position Summary The Infection Control Practitioner (ICP) I, CLS, works within the Infection Prevention and Control department's Congregate Living Settings (CLS) Hub. The IPAC CLS Hub provides support and education to assigned Long Term Care (LTC) homes, retirement homes and non-LTC congregate care settings. In this role, the ICP I works in a supportive capacity to meet the needs of an evolving Infection Prevention and Control practice within these settings. In addition, the ICP I accountabilities include performing continuous Quality Improvement responsibilities; participating in professional development and education activities/programs to ensure excellence in the provision of Infection Prevention and Control services at UHN and performing cross-functional and/or other duties consistent with the job classification, as required.
Duties
- Support surveillance activities within the CLS Hub's associated long term care and retirement homes and congregate care settings to facilitate preventing and controlling outbreaks of infection;
- Support outbreak management;
- Act as a resource for clients, providing support services including occasional evening and weekend calls;
- Create and provide education and training to care providers and other staff members;
- Act as a content expert on current provincial guidance and regulations related to LTC and other congregate living settings;
- Perform continuous Quality Improvement responsibilities;
- Participate in professional development and education activities/programs to ensure excellence in the provision of Infection Prevention and Control services within the CLS Hub;
- Perform cross-functional and/or other duties consistent with the job classification, as required.
Qualifications
- At minimum, completion of a Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing, Health or Allied Health Sciences, and/or Microbiology or recognized equivalent required.
- 1 year of relevant experience
- Completion of an IPAC Canada accredited Infection Prevention & Control course preferred.
- Experience in designing and conducting research with capabilities to perform statistical analysis preferred.
- Teaching experience preferred.
- Experience working in a Hospital or long-term care facility preferred.
- CIC with Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology preferred.
- Membership with IPAC Canada preferred.
