About Us

The Nourish and Develop Foundation (TNDF) is a non-profit located in Cannington, Ontario on a mission to connect people to nourishing food and supportive resources, empowering the community to come together to develop lasting change. Rooted in curiosity, connection, advocacy, responsiveness, and equity, we are a multi-service agency with two pivotal branches—Food Services and Social Services.

Position Summary

The Admin Assistant will work closely with, and under the supervision of the Admin Coordinator while supporting various team members, including the Communications Coordinator and Executive Director. In this multifaceted role, they will provide critical administrative and communications support while fostering a welcoming and respectful environment for all visitors and service users.

Hours and Location

This is a full-time (37.5 hours/week), permanent position.

Standard office hours are Monday – Friday from 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM, however evening and/or weekend shifts may be required for this role, with advance notice given.

This position is based in Cannington, Ontario. There is no remote work or hybrid work option available for this position.

Tasks and Duties

Reception Duties

  • Serve as the first point of contact for general inquiries to the organization
  • Welcome and assist guests in reception, ensuring they are connected with the right person or information
  • Respond to phone calls, emails sent to the general inbox, and messages or comments on social media
  • Schedule appointments and help take orders for food bank clients
  • Relay important updates promptly and clearly to the appropriate team members
  • Maintain a clean, accessible, and welcoming reception area
  • Manage opening and closing procedures for the main office building
  • Perform general administrative tasks as needed (e.g., data entry, mail, filing, photocopying, restocking business cards/forms, light cleaning, running errands)

Communications Duties

  • Manage social media platforms: create, schedule, and publish content; update general information; and respond to messages and comments
  • Capture and edit high-quality photo content for use in communications
  • Organize and maintain digital communications files and photos
  • Manage the organization’s camera: keeping it charged, available to staff, and ensuring SD cards are cleared and ready for use
  • Keep on-site promotional materials current
  • Prepare promotional materials to be distributed off-site by volunteers
  • Maintain up-to-date and organized communications binders
  • Support special communications projects as assigned
  • Collaborate closely with the Communications Coordinator to ensure all content captured or created is consistent with TNDF’s brand, voice, and communications strategy, and to help ensure our programs, services, and the organization as a whole are effectively promoted and meaningfully engaging the community

General Organizational Support

  • Foster a positive organizational culture through collaboration, respect, and teamwork, demonstrating a commitment to TNDF’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Conduct research and participate in training opportunities to enhance knowledge and improve program operations.
  • Collaborate across departments to provide feedback on internal policies and processes.
  • Actively participate in staff meetings, team trainings, and TNDF community events (e.g., Open House, fundraisers).
  • Communicate frequently with staff and offer support as needed.
  • Perform additional errands and duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Demonstrated proficiency with social media platforms (especially the Meta Business Suite), including content creation, scheduling/posting, and community engagement.
  • Strong understanding of the importance of brand voice and visual consistency, with the ability to follow communications guidelines and create content that aligns with the organization’s existing style, tone, and feel.
  • Working knowledge of the Adobe Suite, and/or Canva to update graphics.
  • Experience using a camera to capture high-quality, engaging content, with an eye for strong visuals and basic photo editing skills.
  • Proficient knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a warm, respectful, and non-judgmental approach to engaging with diverse individuals and communities.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities while maintaining care, confidentiality, and professionalism.
  • Able to navigate sensitive situations with compassion and discretion, while maintaining clear and appropriate boundaries.
  • A familiarity with Brock Township, Durham Region, or rural communities is an asset.
  • Please note that the successful applicant will be required to obtain a Vulnerable Sector Check. TNDF will cover the cost of this.
