About the role
Payments & Fintech Advisor (Contract-to-Hire) — Canada
About the role
We’re seeking an experienced payments and fintech specialist to support an active M&A evaluation for Strinos and, longer term, to help build out payments capability across a portfolio of software businesses. This starts as a consulting engagement with the potential to convert into a full-time role.
You’ll work directly with senior leadership and corporate development to assess a payments business tied to a vertical software platform, interpret merchant-level data, evaluate risk and pricing dynamics, and identify growth opportunities including embedded finance.
What you’ll do
- Analyze merchant-level payments data (volume, take rates, interchange, residuals) to assess pricing trends and attrition sensitivity.
- Evaluate merchant risk profiles (MCC/risk categorization, ticket sizes, credit and chargeback exposure).
- Review payment processing contracts (ISO structures, merchant portability, non-solicit terms, risk ownership).
- Assess attach rates, competitive payment alternatives, and pricing headroom.
- Identify incremental revenue opportunities — embedded finance, lending (MCA/working capital), ACH — across the business and broader portfolio.
- Advise leadership through diligence and, post-close, help execute on findings.
What we’re looking for
- Strong experience in US payments / fintech (acquiring, ISV/SaaS embedded payments, or merchant services).
- Deep understanding of payments pricing mechanics — interchange, network fees, acquirer spread, buy rates.
- Comfortable working with large merchant datasets and drawing actionable conclusions.
- Familiarity with embedded finance and lending products is a strong plus.
- M&A / commercial due diligence experience preferred.
- Based in Canada, able to work remotely with a US-focused business.
- Self-directed, fast-moving, and comfortable operating with ambiguity in a lean environment.
Engagement details
- Starts as a contract/consulting engagement with a defined initial scope (near-term, time-sensitive work).
- Strong potential to convert to a full-time position based on fit and business needs.
- Remote within Canada, also optional to come to downtown Toronto office if local to GTA.
