We are seeking a permanent Converter Station Protection & Controls Maintenance Engineering Section Head to join our System
Protection & Controls Department in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Responsibilities:

• Ensure effective engineering support for all converter stations. Work together with site and system stakeholders on forced

outage response and root cause analysis and plans to prevent recurrence and mitigate risk. Ensure robust communication
plans to ensure key stakeholders are aware of equipment status, risks, mitigations, and planned next steps. Ensure technical
support and training for field staff as needed.

• Ensure staff development plans are in place for robust coverage and long term team sustainability. Lead the identification,

planning, prioritization, delegation, and monitoring of team workload with an aim to train and build team expertise, coverage
and sustainability. Administer the section including staffing, performance management, succession planning, training,
budgeting, and business planning.

• Build strong working relationships with the broad team of resources across MH that support the entire HVDC asset life cycle.
• Collaborate, anticipate, understand, and address short and long term strategic needs. Provide HVDC system expertise

including controls, protection, valves, synchronous condensers, real time digital simulation (RTDS) across MH.

• Ensure effective engagement with System Control, System Performance, TSO&M Converter Stations North/South, and other

stakeholders on tests impacting power system operations, monitoring and verifying system performance, analyzing HVDC
system performance, and making operational and maintenance decisions that effectively balance power system and
equipment risks.

• Ensure effective support for HVDC projects including the HVDC Reliability and Sustainment Programs through providing

HVDC system expertise and input on project scopes and plans, providing operational and maintenance requirements and
input on maintainability of new designs and compatibility with existing HVDC system, and providing input, support, and
delivery on project commissioning tasks.

• Support asset management and performance by identifying and supporting development of recommendations for system

enhancements, conducting condition assessments, providing asset health information, providing expertise and input to
maintenance standards, asset class strategies, sparing strategies, and repair/replacement plans.

• Represent the section in corporate working groups and initiatives, and represent Manitoba Hydro externally as required in the

areas of controls, protection, valves, synchronous condensers, and real time digital simulation (RTDS).

• Ensure active engagement in ICS Cyber Security Management Program, including identifying, assessing, and mitigating

security risks and leading security enhancement initiatives. Ensure effective response to security incidents, security
intelligence, and critical patches. Be a leader in sharing best practices and supporting security across the broader IT/OT
space.

• Ensure effective and efficient strategies are in place to sustain CIP compliance, identify and address root cause for

compliance potential violations, and respond to internal and external security audits. Be a leader in sharing and adopting best
practices to streamline compliance. Support ongoing compliance to the broader set of NERC reliability standards.

• Create, negotiate, and manage external support contracts and resources in support of HVDC assets.
• Ensure engineering information on site is up-to-date and accurate.
• Frequently travel to and work in all converter stations (will typically work at least one day each at Dorsey, Riel and Dovercourt

per week, with frequent trips to Gillam). Also, be available after hours to support response to critical and urgent issues as
needed.

Qualifications:

• Graduate in Engineering from a university of recognized standing and registered as a Professional Engineer with Engineers

Geoscientists Manitoba plus one year of additional training with seven years of experience, which includes five years
experience related to HVDC maintenance, operations, design, commissioning, project management. Minimum three years
supervisory/leadership experience.

• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a highly technical team in delivering on complex and critical work requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain harmonious and effective team relationships, and communicate effectively with internal &

external stakeholders.

• Demonstrated knowledge of HVDC valves, protection and controls, and synchronous condensers. Demonstrated knowledge

of power system operations including the potential impacts of the HVDC system to the overall network.

• Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and supervise activities of various schedule-critical concurrent work assignments with a

minimum of supervision and complete high volume of work.

• Demonstrated knowledge of NERC CIP Standards, Programs and Procedures.
• Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Training is required and must be completed prior to transfer date and renewed annually.
• Must obtain and maintain a current Personnel Risk Assessment and a "Clear" security rating in accordance with Manitoba

Hydro policy P513.

• Must have completed Standards of Conduct training, or be willing to complete within two weeks of start date.
• Must possess a valid Manitoba Driver's Licence.

Salary Range

Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $55.94-$76.64 Hourly,
$107,201.12-$146,866.46 Annually.
