About the role

Under the general direction of the Senior Manager of Employee Health of Behavioural Health Services Unit, the Behavioural Health Nurse is primarily responsible for clinical expertise to establish, maintain assess and improve mental health education within the Winnipeg Transit. The responsibilities include providing confidential mental health support, administration of analytics, assessment intervention and leadership for education and training on mental health and wellness topics within the department. The position also collaborates with appropriate staff and occupational health team members to develop individualized care plans.

This position functions as an educator, facilitator, change agent, consultant for quality and compliance. The positions is responsible for the assessment, planning, development, implementation and evaluation of educational programs that enhance individual wellbeing, performance and professional development.

As the Behavioural Health Resource Nurse, your duties will include:

  • Providing behavioural health clinical guidance.
  • Organize and provide education and training sessions for supervisors and members on a variety of mental health and wellness topics.
  • Ensures quality and compliance on all applicable legislation, human rights, PHIA and FIPPA.
  • Working and collaborating with a variety of team members, including the Peer Support Program - CISM, to develop and establish care plans for personnel in Winnipeg Transit.
  • Researches and provides data to Winnipeg Transit and team members of the Behavioural Health Unit.

Your education and qualifications include:

  • Graduate of an approved Registered Psychiatric Nursing program or approved Registered Nursing program required. Registered Psychiatric Nurse preferred.

  • Responsible for maintaining and providing proof of active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM) or the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba (CRPNM).

  • Current Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM), Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), or other related training, course work, or certificates in the field of mental health and wellness is considered an asset.

  • Three (3) years or more of recent related nursing experience required in the field of mental health, psychotherapy or social work.

  • One (1) year or more of experience in dealing with a wide variety of stakeholders, and ability to research and prepare comprehensive written reports.

  • Experience effectively organizing, prioritizing and executing multiple tasks and projects in a high-pressure, stressful environment.

  • Experience providing mental health services to the public service is considered an asset.

  • Ability to select and implement appropriate interventions for members experiencing a variety of psychological concerns, including PTSD, anxiety, depression, and substance abuse, and to make referrals to appropriate community resources when necessary.

  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, self-motivated and directed.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive information.

  • Ability to establish and maintain a positive, respectful, safe, and healthy work environment that supports the physical, psychological, and social working relationships with members at all levels in a team environment

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interact with members, supervisors, and senior management to resolve complex challenges.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including report writing and presenting.

  • Critical thinking skills with the ability to work in a very reactive environment and be able to adapt rapidly to change.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

  • Knowledge and comprehensive understanding of mental health and wellness programming.

  • Knowledge of community resources for mental health.

  • Knowledge and understanding of diverse cultural perspectives, with the ability to interact respectfully and effectively with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds, experiences, and identities.
