About the role
This is a temporary part-time assignment up to Twelve (12) months
Sinai Health is looking for Physiotherapy (PT) Clinical Externs (CE) to support our Rehabilitation Department at our Mount Sinai Hospital Campus.
The listing of responsibilities below are based on assessment of demonstrated competence, and may vary according to those results.
In This Role You Will
Gather information including chart review, gathering pre-admission history from patients and families Gather and clean equipment (mobility aids, chairs, pivot disc/ReTurn, oxygen equipment) Take and monitor vital signs during assessment/treatment sessions Manage lines/tubes during mobility (IV’s, drains, catheters, portable oxygen, etc.) Assist with, or perform independently when assigned: Transfers Mobilization/ambulation Stair training Upper/lower extremity exercises Conduct administrative tasks (such as printing handouts and resources) Communicate with interdisciplinary team (such as Coordinating with RN for pain meds) Report patient observations and status following interventions to appropriate team members, such as primary nurse (such as changes to patient positioning – transferred to chair, safety factors) Document assessment/treatment details in PowerChart when appropriate (must be reviewed and co-signed by PT) Perform other duties consistent with the job classification as required Job Requirements
Mandatory
Currently enrolled and in 2nd year and the process of completing an MScPT from an accredited program/institution An official school transcript will be required to interview for this role
Preferred
Previous placement at Mount Sinai Hospital or another acute care hospital considered an asset
Skills and Knowledge
Proven ability to maintain strict confidentiality Strong patient handling skills Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal); professional, diplomatic and confident with a proven ability to work as a collaborative team member within an interdisciplinary team. Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history Ability to work evenings and weekends
