This is a full-time positionlocatedin Alberta, commencing June 1, 2026.

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is the largest Faculty in Athabasca University and offers a wide range of online courses and programs in the areas of education, humanities, interdisciplinary studies, and social sciences.

The Position:

The EnglishProgram is housed within the largest Faculty, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, in AthabascaUniversity's Centre forHumanities.

Thesuccessfulcandidate will be expected to developand teachnew courses,based on their researchexpertiseandasdeterminedby the needs of the program. The candidate will alsoteach,coordinate,and revisetheexisting courses in the program, as well as supervisetutors for these courses. Evidence of teaching excellence isrequired, and experienceinsupervising graduate studentswillbe considered an asset.Thesuccessful candidate willbe requiredto teach in theundergraduate andgraduate programs.Commitment to exploringand advancing the use of contemporarydigitaltechnologies in online teaching and learningis preferred.All faculty members are expected toparticipateinadministrative committees, including thosepertaining tocentre, faculty, or university-wide endeavors. Additionally, members are expected toparticipatein service to the greater external community.

Qualifications:

Thesuccessfulcandidate will have a PhD inEnglish, Comparative Literature, Literary Studies, or a closely related, relevant fieldand will complement our currentEnglishfaculty'sexpertiseinintroductory,immediateand advanced composition;arobustresearch portfolio; and a successful record of securing tri-agency or similar funds.Applications are encouraged from those whose scholarship critically addressespost-secondary composition, critical reading, andacademicwriting. We are seeking a candidate with an active research program and publication record ina combination ofthe following areas:writing/composition, communications, adulteducationor related fields.Experience in distance learning and familiarity with digital teaching technologies would also be preferred assets.
