Description:
Reporting to the Chief of operations - Contracts, the jobholder will be required to plan, develop, research, analyze, coordinate, write, implement, oversee and manage plant arrangement, maintenance and planting projects carried out throughout the City’s parks, green spaces, waterfront areas and public spaces.
Departmental mission:
The mission of the Public Works Department is to ensure the longevity and proper functioning of all public facilities, equipment, and buildings, in order to support sustainable development and improve citizens’ quality of life.
General responsibilities and goals:
- Help plan horticultural maintenance work and assess needs for materials and products.
- Work with various City departments to develop, update and apply specifications for horticultural work.
- Provide on-site assessment of needs in terms of materials and horticulture requirements, in order to produce estimates of work costs; draft technical specifications to this end.
- Verify all horticultural work carried out in parks, streets and other green spaces.
- Inspect work sites in parks and streets to make sure that standards and specifications are followed.
- Assist his or her superiors, when joint studies are carried out with other departments, with construction and landscaping projects involving streets or parks; for this purpose, study and comment on technical documents from various sources; collect preliminary data as needed.
- Guide and direct a few employees assigned to related tasks and check the quality of their work.
- Write reports and correspondence relevant to his or her tasks.
- Perform any other related task.
Job requirements:
- College diploma in an appropriate sector and profile.
- Two years’ experience in a job ensuring familiarity with the sector.
- Good knowledge of botany, plants, diseases, insect pests and pesticide regulations.
- Knowledge of spoken and written French and English.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
- Valid Class 5 driving license.
Schedule:
35 hours per week
Monday to Thursday inclusively, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., minus 45 minutes for lunch; Friday, 8:00 a.m. to noon.
