The Referee-in-Chief (RIC) performs a critical role in the delivery of Adult Safe Hockey League during the ASHL season.
Job Summary
The Referee-in-Chief is responsible for assigning qualified officials for the Adult Safe Hockey League, as prescribed by the playing schedule, which is completed in 3-4 stages over the course of the season, approximately 7-14 days in advance of game play. Administrative tasks include the completion, communication, and revision of the Referee roster and schedules, recruitment, training, and development of officials, as well as meetings, clinics, and evaluations, as required.
Accountabilities

Assignment of 2 qualified hockey officials for every game

Enforcement of Referee standards as prescribed by the ASHL Rule Book, the annual Exam, Code of Conduct, and Independent Contractor Agreement

Execution of a Referee Meeting, seasonally (or as needed)

Execution of a Referee Clinic, including on-ice training, seasonally (or as needed)

Communication of League initiatives to all Referees
-
Preserves a strong line of communication with the League Manager
-
Timely and professional response to internal/external customer inquiries and feedback
-
Follow-up with Referees to ensure the correct and consistent application of playing rules
Abilities, Attributes and Experience

Willingness and ability to work flexible hours (evenings & weekends).

Strong demonstrated Excel Microsoft Excel and Outlook (or equivalent software) skills,
-
Team oriented.

Great People and Relationship Skills.

This position requires a police background check and clearance with respect to persons working with and / or associating with youth and vulnerable persons

Certification: has previously achieved Level III certification in the Hockey Canada Officiating Program.

Minimum 5 years’ experience as a hockey official.

Minimum 2 years’ experience as a supervisor of officials.
