Description Apprentice Heavy Duty Mechanic - 3rd or 4th Year Standard Bus Contracting is currently seeking a dedicated Apprentice Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our dynamic team in Whitehorse. Both third and fourth year apprentices considered.
This is a full-time permanent position working Monday through Friday from 6:30 am to 3:00 pm, with the possibility of evening and weekend overtime shifts as required.
Hourly Rates
- 3rd Year – $38.00 to $42.00 per hour
- 4th Year – Up to $46.00 per hour (depending on experience)
Principal Duties And Responsibilities
- Diagnose, examine and investigate to determine causes of defective operation of vehicle components with the use of computer diagnostic equipment
- Determine proper course of action to facilitate vehicle repair, maintenance, adjustment and component replacement
- Maintain, adjust, and/or repair all bus systems, components, and parts to ensure the operational fitness of vehicles
- Operate buses to diagnose component failure or move buses when required
- Communicate and consult with employees from all levels of the organization
- Maintain accuracy of documentation for all records of service, repair, and other work
- Perform procurement of parts and materials
- Uphold compliance with all company policies and procedures: safety standards, operations, maintenance, training, cleanliness standards, etc.
Knowledge & Skills Required
- Registered Apprentice (3rd and 4th year considered)
- Valid driver’s license
- Exposure to working on diesel engines considered an asset
- Analytical problem solving and troubleshooting skills
- Strong time management and well-developed communication skills (both written and verbal)
- Computer proficiency
