We're looking for a Machine Building Technician (Robotics & Automation) to join our Engineering team. You'll combine strong mechanical aptitude with precision machining and automation experience to build custom manufacturing equipment that improves safety, quality, and productivity. About the role
Reporting to the Engineer, Continuous Improvement, the Machine Building Technician is responsible for building, assembling, integrating, commissioning, and supporting custom automation equipment and robotic work cells. As a key member of the Engineering team, you'll contribute to new equipment builds, prototype development, machine improvements, and technical troubleshooting while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver safe, reliable, and efficient manufacturing solutions.
Location
Superior Glove Works Ltd. is currently hiring for a Machine Building Technician (Robotics & Automation) to work out of our Global Headquarters in Acton, Ontario. This position is primarily onsite, with occasional travel as required.
Responsibilities
- Build, assemble, and integrate custom automation equipment, robotic work cells, fixtures, and production machinery.
- Interpret engineering drawings, mechanical schematics, pneumatic diagrams, electrical layouts, and bills of materials.
- Fabricate and modify precision mechanical components using lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and other machine tools.
- Install and integrate mechanical, pneumatic, electrical, and automation components.
- Perform equipment testing, machine commissioning, production trials, and start-up activities.
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, pneumatic, electrical, and automation issues.
- Support preventative maintenance and recommend improvements to increase equipment reliability, safety, and productivity.
- Assist with engineering projects, equipment installations, relocations, factory acceptance testing (FAT), and machine risk assessments.
- Maintain accurate build documentation, engineering records, bills of materials, and project documentation.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Production, Quality, and Continuous Improvement teams while continuously developing automation and machine-building expertise.
Qualifications
- Certificate of Qualification as a Tool and Die Maker, Millwright (Industrial Mechanic), or Machine Tool Builder and Integrator (MTBI), or post-secondary education in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Industrial Automation Engineering Technology, or Mechanical Technician.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a custom automation or machine-building environment.
- Experience building, commissioning, and troubleshooting automated manufacturing equipment.
- Strong mechanical assembly, precision machining, fabrication, and blueprint/schematic reading skills.
- CAD experience, preferably SolidWorks.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, teamwork, and continuous improvement skills.
- Willingness to travel as required.
- Experience with robotics, prototype equipment, commissioning, or manufacturing improvements is considered an asset.
