About the role
Summary
Reporting to the Manager, Health & Safety, the Health and Safety Student will work within a team that is accountable for the implementation and monitoring of processes and practices to achieve a safe and healthy work environment. This position will include ensuring compliance with Occupational Health & Safety legislation and the opportunity to work on positively influencing our health and safety performance and safety culture within a manufacturing environment.
Key Accountabilities
- Provides administrative support to the HS Department in all areas including workplace safety, supporting Health & Safety initiatives, incident investigation, maintaining records and audit support.
- Special projects as identified that will help to develop technical and business knowledge for the organization, e.g. ladder safety, LOTO
- Participate in incident investigations and assist in finding corrective actions to prevent recurrence of similar incidents.
- Assist in the development and ongoing management of a site’s safety action plan.
- Assist in the delivery or coordination of health & safety training requirements for the facility.
- Help update and develop safe task safety procedures, risk assessments, and One point lesson.
- Floor walks and follow ups with employees and management on suggestions and improvements.
Requirements:
- Currently enrolled in a degree or graduate certificate in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Sciences, Engineering or a related discipline.
- Working experience in the food/manufacturing industry with knowledge of mechanical/electrical equipment is an asset.
- Knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act is an asset.
- Strong leadership and great communication skills with a proven ability to collaborate across functions.
