About the role

Change the future with us.

We are looking for dedicated and talented people who solve ever-changing challenges, customer needs, and questions from colleagues with clever concepts and creativity. We embrace change and work with curious minds re-inventing the future of work. Join us and let us focus together on what’s truly important: making lives better with new ideas and the latest technology around the world.

About the role: Backend Engineer for Workflow Execution and Orchestration

Are you passionate about building systems that coordinate complex tasks across services, users, and machines? Do you enjoy workflow engines, asynchronous processing, distributed state, and orchestration patterns that turn platform capabilities into executable operations?

We are seeking a Backend Engineer – Workflow Execution & Orchestration to help build the orchestration backbone of the Canada Physical AI platform. Initially, this role will focus on data-processing workflows, annotation/review workflows, pipeline coordination, and event-driven platform execution. Over time, it is expected to contribute to broader support for robot task workflow execution and machine-level orchestration concepts.

This is a strong fit for someone who likes complex backend systems and wants to work on the path from platform workflows toward real-world Physical AI execution environments.

What will you do?

Design and implement workflow services for task coordination, job execution, review flows, retries, state tracking, and dependency management. Build backend logic for data-processing workflows, annotation pipelines, validation jobs, and platform operations. Create scalable orchestration patterns using queues, event streams, schedulers, workflow engines, or stateful service logic. Collaborate with platform architects and robotics integration engineers to define how orchestration services interact with connectors, APIs, and downstream systems. Help evolve the workflow layer toward future robot task workflow execution and machine-level orchestration scenarios. Implement observability, logging, metrics, and operational controls for workflow systems. Support error handling, reproducibility, and execution transparency for complex asynchronous systems. Contribute to engineering quality through testing, code reviews, design discussions, and maintainable implementation patterns.

What you will bring

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, or equivalent experience, in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. Strong backend engineering experience with workflow-oriented or distributed systems. Experience with queues, background job systems, event-driven architectures, stateful backend logic, or workflow engines. Good understanding of microservices, asynchronous processing, resiliency patterns, and platform observability. Strong coding skills in Python, Go, Java, or similar backend languages. Curiosity for industrial systems, robotics-adjacent applications, or orchestrated execution domains.

What sets you apart

Experience with workflow engines such as Temporal, Airflow, Argo, Cadence, or comparable tools. Familiarity with robotics task coordination, industrial execution logic, or machine/cell-level workflow patterns. Experience designing operator-visible execution systems with traceability and operational control. Exposure to physical system integrations, event telemetry, or hybrid cloud-edge execution.

Why Join Us?

Impact: Build the founding team and platform capability for a strategic Physical AI initiative in Canada. Innovation: Work at the intersection of robotics, AI, industrial software, workflow orchestration, and platform engineering. Leadership: Shape the direction, culture, and operating model of a new strategic engineering organization. Collaboration: Partner with leading global research, product, and engineering teams. Growth: Help define how Physical AI platform capabilities scale from data foundations to runtime-enabled industrial applications.

Salary: Salary is commensurate with experience, and base salary ranges between $100,000 CAD - $130,000 CAD, excluding bonus and benefits. In addition to base salary, this role includes eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus of 10 % of base salary, based on Company performance metrics.
