Employment Status Part Time Employment Type Casual Job Summary

Incumbent is responsible for the collecting, organizing, and issuing library resources. This position works directly with students providing support and direction regarding information or equipment. They also coordinate internal and external exams requiring an invigilator and work on a variety of committees to support college initiatives.

Specific Duties

  • Open and distributes incoming mail

  • Use of library catalogue, citation guides, eBooks, and other library databases

  • Responsible for coordination of annual inventory

  • Process and maintain Interlibrary Loan requests and liaising with Interlibrary Loans Technician in Prince George

  • Post new library resources for campus information

  • Manage the lending library resources including equipment

  • Registration of borrowers – data entry of student info from Colleague into Workflows, issuing cards, maintaining and updating registration files

  • Communicates with requestors/suppliers by phone, e-mail, and online

  • Communicate with Regional Librarian in Prince George for Quesnel instructional requests, Quesnel instructional resource needs, and resource requests from faculty

  • Accept and organize book donations for future evaluation

  • Issues patron invoices for lost materials, maintain delinquent patron records, and follow up in conjunction with circulation staff

  • Collection maintenance: shelving books, shelf reading, shifting, planning moves

  • Maintains an inventory resources (textbooks, journals, brochures); update/replenish as needed

  • Keeping statistics on types of library activities and users, including UNBC students and public

  • Binding, repairs and maintenance of library materials, including ACDU Textbooks

  • Catalogue and maintain inventory supply for ID photos for all campus users

  • Assist students with computer accounts and Paper Cut printing system

  • Ensure office supplies are maintained in library and drop-in lab including paper, staples, pens, pencils, etc.

  • Answer basic reference questions and assist with the use of various library equipment and computers

  • Maintain reserve collection (organizing, general cataloguing, add/drops, and returning to instructors)

  • Responsible for opening and closing library facilities, responding to study room booking requests and inquiries, managing noise mitigation, and ensuring user procedures followed.

  • Provide support for Media Services as needed (e.g. sign out equipment, issue/receive equipment, and/or label equipment)

  • Create seasonal window displays and upkeep of greenery in the library

  • Provide students with general computer support such as login, Moodle, CNC connect, etc.

Testing: Internal and External

  • Coordinates, schedules and invigilates tests including internal CNC tests and external testing for other colleges, universities, agencies

  • Assist with questions related to (Student Readiness Assessment (SRA)) and refer when necessary

  • Send exam billing for processing to Finance Department

  • Responsible for maintaining integrity of testing procedures

  • Responsible for communication and coordination with external exam vendor and processing of exams (printing, mailing, photocopying, scanning, etc.)

Reporting

  • Collecting and summarizing annual reports, such as, utilization and SRAsOther related duties as assigned

Skills & Qualifications

  • Recognized two (2 ) year diploma in Library Technician’s or 2-year Diploma Business Administration and one or more years of relevant work experience – or equivalent education and work experience

  • Keyboarding skills of 50 wpm

  • Proven ability to work positively with a very demanding workload, changing priorities, and continuous interruptions and to coordinate activities with the work of the team

  • Ability to work independently and meet extremely demanding work schedules and deadlines, over which the incumbent has little or no control

  • Proficient in appropriate technological resources including the following computer application areas: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint) and Web based research

  • Colleague experience preferred

  • Workflows experience preferred

  • Working knowledge of Student ID photo equipment preferred

  • Superior interpersonal skills including the ability to contribute positively to a team-oriented work environment

  • High degree of sensitivity to both verbal and non-verbal cues

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

Ability to deal well with the students, public and fellow employees

  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability interpret library policies/procedures, work independently
