About the role
JOB SUMMARY
The Transportation Services department is responsible for providing a holistic transportation hub focused on addressing the planning, implementation, operations and delivery of all modes of transportation in the City of Ottawa.
You are responsible for: coordinating and providing project management support for assigned department and/or corporate-wide projects; development, research and evaluation services concerning branch and/or department policies, programs and procedures; issues and inquiry management services; process and performance improvement services; and supervision of the work of staff assigned to these projects.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of 4 year university degree in Business Administration, Public Administration or related field
Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible and practical experience managing projects of increasing complexity
Preference will be given to candidates with previous project management experience
KNOWLEDGE
- Project management methodologies and new practices
- Research and analytic skills including data modelling techniques
- City budgeting and accounting practices
- Strategic thinking and direction
- Computer technology and communications systems
- Must possess the training, experience and knowledge to organize the work and its performance
- Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.

- Ability to work on a wide range of projects of a complex and diverse nature
- Superior writing skills and strong verbal communication skills
- Supervise and provide leadership to consultants and staff assigned temporarily to a projects
- Effectively listen to other viewpoints/opinions/concerns in order to provide leadership and advance business relationships;
- Influence others and build consensus among stakeholders to find resolution to differing points of view;
- Recognize the sensitivity and confidentiality of specific issues and address them accordingly;
- Successfully obtain feedback, clarify issues, discuss impacts, and improve relationships;
- Develop and deliver effective presentation / training sessions;
- Use brainstorming techniques and to document ideas without judgement;
- articulate information to ensure understanding from public/stakeholders/staff;
- Build strong working and positive working relationships with elected officials, public and industry stakeholders;
- Create reports, flow charts, visual models to demonstrate issues and problems so that information is concise and makes sense
- Lead technical and non-technical teams
- Organize work and meet deadlines
- Preparing reports for council consideration
- Make presentations to senior management
- Excellent oral and written communications
- Ability to handle multiple overlapping projects
- Effective interpersonal skills
- Tact and diplomacy

- Language Requirement: English oral, reading, writing
