Laboratory Supervisor - Toxicology Operations About the Role:
We are seeking a results-driven Laboratory Supervisor to provide daily operational leadership within our Toxicology Laboratory. In this role, you will oversee assigned assay areas, ensuring on-time production, operational efficiency, and compliance with GLP/ISO standards. You will lead a team of Team Leads and Lab Technicians, manage workflow, review first-level data, maintain equipment readiness, and support a culture of quality and continuous improvement.
This position is ideal for a proactive leader who thrives in a fast-paced, high-volume lab environment and is passionate about developing teams while maintaining operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities: Operational Leadership
- Oversee daily operations in assigned assay areas to meet production targets, timelines, and quality standards.
- Review and approve first-level data, worksheets, and laboratory records.
- Ensure laboratory equipment is maintained, calibrated, and fully operational.
- Monitor efficiency and implement process improvements to enhance productivity and reduce errors.
- Maintain accountability for deviations and CAPAs, ensuring timely investigation, documentation, and closure.
Team Leadership & Mentorship
- Lead, mentor, and coach lab personnel; provide regular performance feedback.
- Conduct daily huddles and team meetings to align priorities and address issues.
- Coordinate staffing coverage in partnership with Team Leads.
- Participate in hiring, interviewing, training, and onboarding of new staff.
- Support career development of Team Leads and Lab Technicians.
Compliance & Quality
- Ensure adherence to GLP, ISO17025, and internal Quality policies.
- Initiate, track, and close deviations and CAPAs in assigned areas.
- Support internal and external audits, inspection readiness, and regulatory reviews.
- Promote safe laboratory practices, PPE compliance, and Health & Safety standards.
Strategic & Administrative
- Provide input on staffing, equipment needs, and resource planning.
- Collaborate with the Operations Manager on workflow optimization and capacity planning.
- Maintain labor metrics, overtime logs, and training records for direct reports.
- Offer technical input for process improvements and assay development initiatives.
- Participate in safety inspections and ensure corrective actions are completed.
General Duties
- Implement the Laboratory Quality Policy and ensure adherence to SOPs, study plans, and test methods.
- Follow all Health & Safety procedures and consistently wear required PPE.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Toxicology, Biochemistry, or a related field (required).
- Equivalent education/experience may be considered by HR and department leadership.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of laboratory experience, including 2+ years in a supervisory or first-level leadership role in a GLP/ISO17025 environment.
- Equivalent experience may be considered by HR and department leadership.
Soft Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication, coaching, and leadership capabilities.
- Highly accountable, results-driven, and able to work independently.
- Adaptable to a fast-paced, high-volume laboratory setting.
