Job Purpose
Reporting to the Director, Global Partnerships and Business Development, the Partnerships and Portfolio Lead drives early-stage opportunity development and joint value creation with internal stakeholders and non-traditional actors. As partnerships mature, this role works closely with relevant segment leads for continued engagement and stewardship.
This role provides strategic leadership in emerging funding models, with a strong focus on innovative finance, climate and carbon finance, and nature-based solutions, helping position WVC as a credible leader in these growing spaces.
We are seeking an individual Who Is:
- A strategic partnership builder and joint value co-creator - initiates and shapes opportunities by aligning internal and external stakeholders championing partnerships that are co-owned, co-developed, and designed for systemic, scalable change beyond one-off funding.
- Proficient in innovative finance - possesses a strong understanding of blended finance, deal structuring, and climate finance (including carbon markets), with the ability to identify and engage partners to build thought leadership and lead collaborative projects.
- An effective communicator and collaborator - excels at facilitating dialogue among diverse stakeholders to build trust, foster alignment, and drive collective action.
Responsibilities
Foster Joint Value Creation
- Co-create impactful and scalable solutions with key internal stakeholders and non-traditional partners such as asset managers, investment platforms, and structuring experts to design and undertake initiatives that deliver mutual value.
- Work closely with segment leads to transition emerging opportunities and partnerships that align with their area of responsibility for further development and stewardship.
- Lead cross-cutting opportunities that emerge from joint value creation but do not fall under any existing segment, ensuring they move forward with clear direction, momentum, and alignment to strategic goals.
- Act as an internal connector and integrator building trust, promoting shared ownership, and facilitating collaboration across teams.
Advance Innovative Finance
- Lead market development and pipeline generation in innovative and climate finance, such blended finance, results-based financing, and carbon market mechanisms.
- Position WVC as a thought leader by creating and sharing practical insights, tools, and models that demonstrate how innovative finance can drive impact.
- Co-develop high-impact partnerships and deals with internal teams and strategic partners that advance key priorities and showcase leadership in this space.
- Identify internal capability gaps and support relevant teams in building confidence and literacy around innovative finance and strategic collaboration.
Represent WVC Externally
- Represent WVC in coalitions, networks, and strategic dialogues related to climate finance, carbon programming, and innovative funding approaches.
- Position WVC as a trusted collaborator in shaping system-level solutions—particularly around nature-based solutions, carbon markets, and innovative financing.
- Leverage external networks to identify new opportunities, foster strategic alliances, and bring emerging models into the organization.
Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years of experience in international development, strategic partnerships, asset management, business development or donor engagement.
- Demonstrated success in managing strategic partnerships with institutional donors, and partners.
- Strong knowledge of innovative finance, climate and carbon finance, and results-based financing models.
- Experience coordinating across teams and sectors to enable joint value creation.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and manage complex stakeholder environments.
- University degree (Master’s preferred) in International Development, Business, Public Administration, or related field.

- Strategic systems-level thinker with the ability to facilitate joint value creation that cut across sectors, teams, and thematic areas.
- Deep understanding of innovative and climate finance, including carbon markets and nature-based solutions.
- Excellent relationship-building, facilitation, and influencing skills, with a proven ability to align diverse stakeholders around shared value and long-term goals.
- Excellent communicator, both written and verbal, able to convey complex ideas clearly and persuasively to internal and external audiences.
- Highly organized and adaptive, comfortable navigating dynamic, fast-paced environments with evolving priorities and limited structure.
- Collaborative and inclusive leader with experience working with cross-cultural, cross-functional teams to deliver results in global contexts.
