Requisition ID: 178525 Job Level: Mid Level Home District/Group: Eastern Canada District Department: Estimating Market: Transportation Employment Type: Full Time Position Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented Civil Estimator to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for heavy civil engineering projects, including highways, bridges, tunnels, and large-scale infrastructure. This role requires a strong understanding of heavy civil construction processes, materials, and cost structures.District Overview Eastern Canada District's projects include highways, bridges, mass transit, mine site development & open pit operations, hydroelectric powerhouses, wind-power plants, dams & industrial. They serve the construction and mining industries and operates in Eastern Canada. Location The initial assignment for this position will be either at our project downtown Toronto or the Oakville, ON office.Responsibilities
- Analyze project plans, specifications, and other documentation to prepare comprehensive cost estimates.- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to understand project requirements and constraints.- Conduct site visits to gather information on project conditions and constraints.- Prepare detailed quantity take-offs and cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor services.- Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing.- Review and evaluate subcontractor bids for accuracy and completeness.- Prepare and present bid proposals to clients and stakeholders.- Monitor and update cost estimates as project conditions change.- Assist in the preparation of project budgets and schedules.- Participate in post-bid reviews and project handover meetings.Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in civil estimating or a related role.- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and cost estimation techniques.- Broad knowledge and ability to understand project scheduling, cost control, specifications, and engineering drawings.- Proficiency in estimating software and tools, InEight Estimate (HardDollar) preferred- Excellent analytical and mathematical skills.- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.- Willing to travel as the position requires.Other Requirements:
Regular, reliable attendance Work productively and meet deadlines timely Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies. Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required. May work at various different locations and conditions may vary Openings are to fill both existing vacancies and newly created positions
