About the role

Position Summary

The Recovery Homes Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the effective and efficient operation of Seabird Island Band’s Recovery Homes in alignment with the philosophies, policies, and objectives established by Band Management. This role provides both administrative leadership and direct support to recovery home staff, fostering a professional, compassionate, and culturally safe environment.

The Supervisor will oversee the delivery of holistic mental health and recovery-focused services for clients and their families, ensuring programs are client-centered, culturally grounded, and connected to community support. They will play a key role in developing and sustaining strong cultural programming that honors traditional teachings and values while integrating evidence-based practices.

In addition, the Supervisor will manage program budgets on a weekly and monthly basis, ensuring resources are used responsibly to meet client and program needs. The role also involves active collaboration and communication with other First Nations communities, partner organizations, and external agencies to identify emerging needs, strengthen partnerships, and promote awareness and accessibility of services.

This is a Leave coverage position with a start date of September 23, 2025, and end date of October 30, 2026.

What you'll do

Staffing & Leadership

  • Provide direct supervision, mentorship, and performance management to recovery home staff, including case managers, recovery support workers, and other program staff.

  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels are maintained at all times to meet the needs of the homes and residents, aligning with programming standards, licensing regulations, and Seabird Island Band policies.

  • Lead by example, cultivating a professional, compassionate, and culturally safe workplace that fosters staff growth, collaboration, and accountability.

  • Oversee staff recruitment, onboarding, orientation, training, and ongoing professional development, ensuring all employees maintain the required qualifications, certifications, criminal record checks, and confidentiality agreements.

  • Conduct regular team meetings, case reviews, and one-on-one check-ins to support staff performance, address challenges, and reinforce program goals and values.

  • Promote staff wellness and resilience by recognizing the challenges of recovery work and encouraging healthy work-life balance, debriefing practices, and access to support.

Program Oversight & Administration

  • Provide day-to-day oversight of the operations of the recovery homes, ensuring that programming, client care, and service delivery meet the highest standards of quality and safety.

  • Monitor program effectiveness by gathering and analyzing statistical data, client feedback, and staff input, and provide monthly reports—both narrative and quantitative—to the Department Manager of Integrated Primary Care.

  • Ensure recovery home operations are compliant with all applicable licensing, funding agreements, and governing policies, including Seabird Island Band’s HR and program policies.

  • Advocate for clients and families, acting as a liaison between residents, external service providers, community agencies, and healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated, wraparound support.

  • Address and resolve client concerns, incidents, and crises in collaboration with staff, ensuring safety, dignity, and respect for all residents.

  • Develop and maintain operational procedures, safety protocols, and best practices that enhance service delivery and reduce risks.

Client & Community Engagement

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with residents by modeling respect, consistency, and cultural humility while supporting their individual recovery journeys.

  • Encourage client participation in programming, cultural activities, skill-building workshops, and community engagement opportunities that promote wellness, connection, and self-sufficiency.

  • Work collaboratively with other Seabird Island Band programs and departments to provide holistic, wraparound services that address clients’ physical, emotional, spiritual, and cultural needs.

  • Represent the recovery homes and Seabird Island Band at community events, forums, and interagency meetings, always serving as a positive ambassador for the organization.

Other

  • Additional responsibilities as needed to support the community and uphold our shared values.

  • Participate actively in Seabird Island Band community functions and cultural events such as the Seabird Island Festival, Open House, and other gatherings as required.

  • Remain flexible and responsive to emerging needs, including crisis response, community advocacy, and supporting organizational initiatives outside of core recovery home operations.

What you bring

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in substance use, social work, counselling or another related field.

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the substance use field.

  • A detailed and professional understanding substance use, family dynamics, intergenerational trauma, and mental illness

  • Understanding of the complexity of trauma, colonization, substance use, mental illness and the impacts of these

  • Ability to direct activity and programming that support clients in building self-worth, resilience and boundaries.

  • Three to five years’ supervisory experience of multi-disciplinary staff.

  • An ability to ensure kind, caring, compassionate care to clients while ensuring the best decisions are being made.

  • Ability to maintain a high level of respect and confidence from clients and the community.

  • Ability to balance competing priorities, multitask, and to work under pressure.

  • Able to demonstrate flexibility and creativity when called upon.

Preferred:

  • First Nations candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

  • Lived experience as a member of a First Nations community.

  • Knowledge and understanding of Seabird Island’s culture, traditions, teachings, community dynamics.

  • Ability to respond quickly and professionally to community or colleague needs and inquiries.

  • Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.

Cultural Competency:

  • Deep understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and contemporary issues.

  • Experience working within Indigenous communities and applying culturally safe practices.

  • A detailed and professional understanding substance use, family dynamics, intergenerational trauma, and mental illness

  • Understanding of the complexity of trauma, colonization, substance use, mental illness and the impacts of these.

Working / Special Conditions

  • Initial and ongoing employment is subject to submission of a clear Criminal Record Review Program Check to ensure the safety and trust of the communities we serve. This check will be conducted every five years.

  • Initial and ongoing commitment to the values and guidelines of Sq'éwqel (Seabird Island Band), including our policies, procedures, standards of practice, and laws, is essential. This commitment supports our collective work, the community, and the responsibilities of this role.

  • Must possess a valid class 5 driver's license and have access to safe and reliable transportation, insured for community-based use.

  • Flexibility in working hours may be required, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate the needs and schedules of events, meetings, and engagements. Employees will be given as much notice as possible to any changes in schedule.
