Reporting to the Senior Business Development Engineer, the contract Business Development Engineer will support the initial concept scoping and development of multiple midstream energy projects and initiatives in conjunction with the commercial team to support the strategic vision of growing the Husky Midstream business entity. This role will involve both internal and external interaction with a wide range of stakeholders which will require a collaborative attitude and strong communication skills.
The Business Development engineer must have the ability to take complex technical issues and provide and communicate easy-to-understand solutions. This role is accountable for supporting the development of project scope from initial concept stage through to turnover to the Major Projects group for execution while taking into consideration the needs of Operations and other key stakeholders.
This position is full time, contract, located in our Calgary office. Occasional travel is a component of this role.
Core Responsibilities:
The primary responsibilities of the Business Development Engineer role include:

Provide the commercial team with cost effective physical scope alternatives with associated cost estimates and technical support in the evaluation of development opportunities that expand or optimize existing infrastructure or build new pipelines, terminals, or related facilities.

Coordinate the participation of support groups, such as Operations, Customer Service, Regulatory, Major Projects, third-party engineering firms, etc. in the development process

Manage technical issues and provide support on use of existing infrastructure

Support negotiations with customers and/or third-party stakeholders

Perform financial and economic analysis of new projects and ongoing commercial activities

Facilitation and collaboration across multi-disciplinary teams using strong listening skills
Day to day tasks:

Gather, format, and analyze data to investigate project development opportunities

Generate and assess multiple creative solutions and a recommendation
-
Create presentations, sketches, schematics, spreadsheets to capture scope concepts

Draft technical scoping documents (Scope of Work, Project Charter) and Husky Midstream’s project delivery system deliverables
Qualifications:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Licensed Professional Engineer registered, or eligible for registration with APEGA
- Solid technical knowledge and experience in early project development would be an asset, including an understanding of basic process engineering and midstream oil and gas operations
- Experience with pipeline hydraulics simulator, such as Synergi (SPS)
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
- Basic understanding of economic decision analysis
- Ability to organize and manage large amounts of information
- Capable of working in a fast-paced work environment with dynamically shifting priorities and tight deadlines
- Ability to multi-task, delegate, and leverage the expertise of others
- Skilled in breaking down complex technical issues to provide optimal solutions
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication, organization, and time management skills
- Capable of working independently and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team
- Ability to travel to field sites, including holding a valid driver’s license
