DISTRIBUTION ENGINEER
We are seeking a motivated problem-solver with a positive attitude and a passion for learning and cultivating relationships to join our Engineering team. This position is responsible for system planning and variance technical studies, fostering harmonious relations, providing support to develop and maintain operational and capital budget, seeking process improvement opportunities, as well as ensuring compliance to Company polices and all applicable legislated codes. Reporting to the Supervisor, Distribution Engineering, the main responsibilities include but are not limited to: the planning and execution of electrical system design and ensure safe work practice designs are incorporated; reviewing and approving plans completed by Distribution Technicians as well as investigating technical issues; provide technical support to other departments, coordination and project management of capital and maintenance programs; provide technical details to Finance and Regulatory Departments required to complete OEB cost of service filings; assist in the preparation of and provide technical review for the five-year capital and maintenance expenditure budget; develop and maintain positive working relationships with all internal departments as well as external customers, contractors, municipal and other government agencies.
The ideal candidate will have the following skills and qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with P. Eng., licensed by the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) or
- Two (2) to five (5) years relevant work experience in the electrical utility industry would be an asset.
- Possess knowledge of the Ontario Energy Board regulations and common electrical utility practices.
- Experience in system planning and communications, line or substation design, protection and control, power system communication, SCADA, GIS, project management, budgeting, Net Present Value analysis, and Regulation 22/04.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite, AutoCAD and database management.
- Understand the concept of power system analyses such as arc flash, load flow, etc.
- High level of discretion and good judgement with demonstrated problem solving skills and ability to take initiative.
- Must possess and maintain in good standing a valid Ontario “G” driver’s license with a clean driving abstract as travel to other FortisOntario business units may be required.
What we have to offer:
- This role offers a base compensation range $90 500 - $113 100 of based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
- Eligible for a target based annual bonus based on a percentage of annual salary up to 7.5%.
- Share Purchase Plan with Company paid 10% top-up.
