Lighting Designer / Quotation Specialist
Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Lighting Designer / Quotation Specialist to join our lighting manufacturing team. In this role, you will work closely with our sales, engineering, and product development teams to deliver high-quality lighting designs and accurate project quotations for commercial and industrial applications.
You will play a key role in securing project opportunities by transforming client requirements, architectural plans, and engineering specifications into fully compliant lighting solutions supported by photometric analysis, technical documentation, and competitive quotations.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop photometric lighting layouts for commercial environments including offices, retail, healthcare, and hospitality spaces, as well as industrial facilities such as warehouses, manufacturing plants, and logistics centers
- Perform lighting calculations and analysis including illuminance levels, uniformity ratios, glare control (UGR), and lighting power density (W/m²) in accordance with IESNA standards, ASHRAE 90.1, and applicable Canadian building codes
- Prepare detailed project quotations including fixture selection from the company product catalogue, bill of materials, fixture counts, pricing, and value-engineering alternatives
- Produce IFC (Issued for Construction) lighting drawings and documentation using AutoCAD and/or Revit, including reflected ceiling plans, lighting schedules, and photometric reports
- Collaborate with sales representatives during pre-sales, bidding, and tender phases by providing technical support, site assessments, and competitive product recommendations
- Support LEED certification and utility rebate submissions (e.g., Save on Energy, Hydro Quebec incentive programs) by preparing required compliance documentation
- Coordinate with electrical engineers, contractors, consultants, and project managers regarding submittals, RFIs, substitutions, and technical clarifications
- Maintain and enhance internal design resources including lighting templates, fixture detail libraries, and photometric databases (IES/LDT files)
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of experience in commercial or industrial lighting design, preferably within a lighting manufacturer, distributor, or lighting representative agency
- Proficiency in AGi32 for photometric simulation, analysis, and compliance reporting
- Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD, including reflected ceiling plans, lighting schedules, and electrical drafting standards
- Experience preparing project quotations, including bill of materials, fixture counts, and pricing documentation
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, mechanical, and electrical drawings and specifications
- Knowledge of exit sign and emergency lighting requirements, including Ontario Building Code (OBC), National Building Code (NBC), CSA C22.2 No. 141 standards, egress illumination requirements, viewing distance calculations, and bilingual/pictogram signage compliance
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
- Excellent communication and coordination skills when working with internal teams, contractors, consultants, and clients
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual in English and French (written and verbal), particularly to support clients in Quebec and bilingual regions of Ontario
- Experience with Revit MEP or BIM coordination workflows
- Familiarity with lighting controls and integration systems including DALI-2, 0–10V dimming, occupancy sensors, daylight harvesting, and BACnet protocols
- Knowledge of hazardous location (HazLoc) or explosion-proof lighting standards for Class I/II Division 1 & 2 environments
- Diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Architectural Technology, or a related technical field
