About the role

Job Description

  • Location: Toronto, ON (hybrid) Collingwood, ON (periodic travel)
  • Salary: Up to $120k p/a base + bonus
  • Industry: Non-Profit

THE OPPORTUNITY This is not a maintenance role. The organization behind this posting has grown from $20M to $40M in gross revenue in two years, manages over $400M in charitable assets, and has a clear line of sight to $2B. The infrastructure needs to keep pace and the person hired into this role will be the one building it.

You will own the accounting function across two related entities: a for-profit administrative company and a donor-advised charitable foundation. That means full-cycle books, a NetSuite migration, a meaningful automation mandate, and a direct line to senior leadership who actually want to hear what you think. The CFO path is real. The business is growing into it.

THE ORGANIZATION Our client is one of Canada's leading donor-advised fund platforms; a vehicle that allows high-net-worth families and their advisors to manage philanthropy with the same rigour they apply to investment portfolios. Assets under administration are growing rapidly. The platform currently serves over 400 accounts across 76 advisory relationships and is expanding.

The parent organization is a 115-person financial services consulting firm growing at 25% per year, with active M&A and plans to expand the model internationally. The culture is described internally as Purposeful, Authentic, Tenacious and Humbl, and from what employees say, it holds up.

What You'll Be Doing Day to day, you are running the full accounting function across both entities - general ledger, reconciliations, month-end close, vendor payments, cash flow, HST rebate filings, and banking. You are the person the auditors deal with at year-end and the person leadership calls when they need to understand a number.

Beyond the core function, there are two things this role exists to drive:

  • The first is a migration from QuickBooks Desktop NFP to NetSuite. The target is a clean cutover by end of 2026. You will lead it - with support from an internal Toronto tech team and an implementation partner, but you are the accountant in the room making the decisions about how the books should work in the new system.
  • The second is automation. The current environment has manual processes that should not be manual - NAV calculations, donation receipts, tax receipt generation. Your job is to find them and fix them.

Specific Responsibilities Include

  • Full-cycle GL and month-end close across both entities
  • DAF-specific accounting: investment activity, fund fees, grant disbursements, NAV calculations, donation receipts
  • Financial reporting, cash flow forecasting, and annual budget management
  • Vendor payments and banking across both entities
  • HST rebate filings and ongoing CRA compliance
  • Year-end working paper preparation and external audit liaison
  • Lead the QuickBooks Desktop NFP to NetSuite migration
  • Design and implement process automation across manual workflows
  • Internal controls documentation and maintenance
  • Oversight of Collingwood-based finance support staff

THE SPLIT The primary office is in Toronto (St. Clair East), with Wednesday and Thursday as anchor days in the office. The Collingwood office is a meaningful part of this role - plan for roughly two to three days per month on-site, particularly during onboarding. Travel and accommodation are covered. One member of the Toronto leadership team already runs this rhythm and can walk you through how it works in practice.

Remote flexibility is available once you're integrated.

GTA-based candidates are strongly preferred.

Qualifications

  • You are a CPA. That is the one non-negotiable.
  • Beyond that: you are technically strong across full-cycle accounting, you are comfortable owning a function without a lot of overhead, and you are the kind of person who sees a broken process and fixes it before anyone asks. Systems do not intimidate you. If anything, you find a migration interesting.
  • Non-profit or DAF experience is helpful but not required. If you have not worked in a charitable foundation before, you should be honest with yourself about whether you are comfortable learning a new accounting model on the job - because there is a learning curve and you will be expected to manage it without a lot of hand-holding.

Why Is This a Great Opportunity

  • Compensation is $100,000$120,000 base with a 15-20% discretionary bonus, 6% RRSP matching, comprehensive benefits, 3 weeks vacation, and a $50/month gym subsidy. Continuing education is supported.
  • There is also an employee share ownership program launching this year. It is merit-based and tax-advantaged. Early employees in a fast-growing firm tend to look back on moments like this one.
  • The growth trajectory is the real story. The business is targeting $2B in AUM within three years. International expansion is underway ... the model is being taken to the United States and the United Kingdom. There is active M&A. The accounting function today is one entity. The accounting function in three to five years looks materially different and the person who builds it now is the obvious candidate to lead it then.
