The Opportunity

Company, Department: Smart Meter Operations Centre Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia Type of Employment: Permanent, Full-Time Closing Date: July 8, 2026 We are looking for a Smart Meter Solution Specialist to join our Smart Meter Operations Centre team in Halifax, Nova Scotia. In this full-time, permanent role, you will play a key part in supporting Nova Scotia Power’s Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system, helping deliver reliable, data-driven services to our customers. Our Smart Meter Operations Centre is a fast-paced, collaborative environment that supports critical business functions, including: Customer billing and service connections/disconnections Outage management Customer-facing energy tools and platforms Grid performance and data analytics Reporting to the Manager of Smart Meter Operation Centre, you will join a dynamic team of professionals focused on maintaining and enhancing our AMI infrastructure. You will contribute to innovative solutions that improve operational efficiency, support data-driven decision-making, and enhance the overall customer experience.

Key elements of this role include:

As a Smart Meter Solution Specialist, you will play a key role in ensuring that smart meter data and AMI systems effectively support business goals and operations. You will have the opportunity to: Identify, analyze, recommend and implement new value opportunities through AMI technology. Configure and enhance AMI systems, including but not limited to Oracle Meter Data Management, Itron Head End System and Smart Meters. Investigate and resolve complex techno-functional issues in AMI tools and processes using large datasets and critical thinking. Contribute to a high-performing, data-driven team by supporting transaction processing and ensuring strong data quality standards. Build and maintain strong working relationships with other business units such as Customer Care, Billing Services, Meter Field Services, and IT, as well as with vendors & service providers supporting the Smart Meter Operating Centre. Share expert level knowledge with the Smart Meter Operations Centre team and associated business workgroups to maintain and advance key business functions such as billing services and outage restoration management. Design and implement new processes while improving existing ones to increase overall team effectiveness. Participate in AMI user groups, industry events, and peer discussions to stay current on system capabilities and identify new value opportunities Be responsible for your own personal safety and that of your co-workers by observing all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations.

These skills will make you successful:

To thrive in this role, you’ll bring a combination of technical expertise, critical thinking, and the ability to collaborate in a fast-paced environment. You’ll likely have many of the following skills and experiences: A degree or Diploma in Engineering, Computer Science, Informatics or a related field. Around 3 years of experience in a technical solutions role at a multifunctional organization. Experience navigating and analysing large data sets with SQL. Experience supporting projects including requirements gathering, documentation, test planning and execution, and schedule and risk management. A curious mindset and strong critical thinking skills to help solve problems, troubleshoot issues, and identify opportunities for improvement. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex technical concepts and recommendations to a variety of stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities and adapt as needed to changing priorities. Proven customer service skills. Experience in meter technologies and utility operations is considered an asset. Experience with data visualization tools (ex., Tableau, Power BI) is considered an asset. We provide 95 per cent of the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity in Nova Scotia, and serve over 500,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers across the province.

Our 1,700 dedicated, safety-focused employees help manage $5 billion worth of generation, transmission and distribution assets and produce more than 10,000 gigawatt hours of electricity each year.

We use a fuel mix including hydro, tidal, wind, coal, oil, biomass and natural gas to generate electricity. Our facilities can generate as much as 2,453 megawatts of electricity that is delivered across 32,000 km of transmission and distribution lines throughout Nova Scotia.
