EBT Chartered Professional Accountants is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Accounting Technician to join our team in Medicine Hat, AB. In this role, you will support the accounting cycle by performing tasks that do not require CPA oversight, while assisting Principals and other Chartered Professional Accountants (CPAs) in the smooth execution of day-to-day accounting operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Financial Statements & Tax Preparation: prepare a Notice to Reader financial statements, corporate and personal tax returns.
- Bookkeeping & Reporting: Perform bank reconciliations, manage accounts receivable/payable, process payroll, and handle WCB, GST, and T4 filings.
- Accounting and Compliance: Maintaining accounting entries, control year-end records, draft financial reports, and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Support and Collaborate: Assist CPAs file needs, review bookkeeper files, and contribute to budgeting.
- Meetings & Professional Development: Attend staff and department meetings, participate in the mentorship program, and perform additional duties as assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Preparation and issuing documents related to accounts such as bills, invoices, statement of accounts, and any other financial statements.
- Calculating cost of materials, overhead and other expenses based on estimates and quotations.
- Preparation of budget data and documents based on estimated revenues and expenses from previous budget
- Verification and reconciliation of transactions such as accounts payable and receivable, credit checks, payroll, purchase orders (PO), cheques, invoices, cheque requisitions and bank statements.
- Manage and organize year-end financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare and maintain financial records, including general ledger entries and reconciliations.
- Assist in the preparation financial statements and reports, and ensure adherence of financial regulations.
- Provide bookkeeper file reviews as required.
- Support Principals and CPA’s by gathering and organizing files, as well as performing other duties as assigned by CPAs or the Principals.
- Respond to client inquiries, reach out to clients on outstanding payments while maintaining good customer relations with clients
- Perform administrative duties such as maintaining filing, record keeping, faxing, photocopying.
- Assist Account Manager as required.
- Although this position will not have supervisory responsibilities, you may be required to review files from time-to-time and provide mentorship as needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to analyze and interpret financial data.
- Task prioritization and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to manage, multiple deadlines, determine priorities and complete requirements
- Detail oriented, methodical, and trustworthy.
- Strong self-awareness and ability to identify areas of improvements.
- Strong client relations skills.
- Self-confidence and proven professional maturity.
- Experience with Caseware, Simply Accounting, QuickBooks, Taxprep, Microsoft Suite and the ability to learn new software quickly.
Education and Experience:
- Business Administration Diploma is required
- Bachelor’s degree with accounting or finance would be considered an asset.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in an accounting or bookkeeping role is considered an asset.
- Experience in Corporate and or Personal Tax preparation
