JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Director, Cancer Program and Erie St. Clair Regional Cancer Program (ESC RCP), the Manager, Hematology Program strategically plans, collaborates and implements, with inter-professional team members, operational and patient-focused care objectives within the Benign, Malignant and Complex Malignant Hematology (CMH) Oncology Program. This position provides leadership and oversight to patients with cancer of the lymph glands, blood or bone marrow. This includes local and shared-care models with our partner provincial sites related to the primary modes of therapy - intensive systemic therapy, transfusion and cellular therapy/transplantation. This position will oversee the coordination of services and management of Hematology teams, budgets, infrastructure, and all processes related to the Hematology Program.

Key areas of focus include ensuring expansion of our autologous transplant program and implementation of the CMH Models of Care Recommendations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

In conjunction with the leadership team, development of a plan to serve the needs of patients requiring Complex Malignant Hematology Services over the next 5 years and beyond.

Provides leadership in program expansion, implementation and evaluation.

Assess programmatic needs and lead the preparation and implementation of CMH program activities and initiatives.

Support strategic planning and execution of project and change management necessary for new program growth.

Analyze current and future trends and growth opportunities and propose new or revised programs that will optimally position the program for regional and national excellence.

Formulate program objectives, goals, and strategies; collaboratively assess new opportunities and develop actionable and tactical plans to meet growth and programmatic objectives.

Leverage data and information to identify opportunities for quality improvement; charter process improvement teams to address areas of need.

Develop community needs assessment and make recommendations on program changes related to community assessment outcomes and strategic plan.

Foster coordination of clinical care and programmatic efforts across regional partners of, including Cancer Centre affiliates.

Oversees the daily operations of the CMH program and the clerical functions related to CMH

Lead and manage all mandated reporting (ie cellular therapy) to WRH, OH-CCO, national and international patient data registries and accreditation bodies.

Collaborates and maximizes relationships, both internally and externally to ensure CMH best practices are followed and positively impact quality outcomes for the Transfusion Cellular Therapy program.

Provides general leadership functions such as supervision of staff, sharing of information and best practices, triaging of issues, mentoring of staff, addressing barriers and empowering staff and other leadership qualities as directed

In collaboration with the Regional Director and Medical Director; leads regulatory and accreditation compliance, utilizing CMH program data, with Health Canada, FACT/CIBMTR, etc. as well as attending CMH program meetings

Supports the development of the CMH Quality Management Program as it pertains to data management which is supported by administrative, quality, and clinical Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Patient Care and Quality Assurance Forms and Practice Guides.

Expand current and/or develop new processes to survey patient and/or caregiver experience related to cancer services.

Attends and actively participates in provincial committees and forums pertaining to CMH and transfusion cellular therapy.

RESPONSIBILITIES (cont’d):

Acting in accordance with hospital patient safety policies and programs.

Maintain compliance with all clinical policies, procedures, and regulations.

Assure compliance with applicable clinical ambulatory standards and accreditations.

Develop staffing models in conjunction with program and patient care needs, and in alignment with OH-CCO recommendations

Actively oversee program finances, anticipate and plan for future success, and seamlessly adapt to the current fiscal environment.

Review operating budgets, including volume projections and expense and revenue estimates.

Analyze and monitor actual budget performance and address variances.

Prepare documentation and participate in evaluation and acquisition of capital equipment and supplies with the foundation.

Provide facility management/oversight as defined by clinic operations administration.

Participate in renovation, new clinic development, facility planning, and constructions

Perform other duties and assignments as required.

Applying a broad-based operational, managerial and professional knowledge and expertise across a diverse environment and working closely with Windsor Regional Hospital leadership team.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Baccalaureate degree in Nursing, Health Administration or other applicable program;

Current registration, in good standing, with the College of Nurses of Ontario or other regulatory college;

Minimum of 3 years of experience in complex malignant hematology with a minimum of 1 year in the outpatient setting preferred

Minimum of 1 year experience with program planning, implementation and evaluation preferred.

A recognized equivalent master’s degree preferred

Relevant professional/specialty association membership preferred.

Program and project management skills including strategic planning, implementation and evaluation.
