About the role

Job Description

What is the opportunity?

The Associate Director – Capital Analytics, Forecasting and Insights within RBC’s Financial Resource Optimization (FRO) group will:

  • Deliver data-driven analytics on the Bank’s capital and related ratios, metrics and KPIs
  • Deliver process enhancements through automation and use of generative AI for higher efficiencies in deliverables including peer benchmarking, and research on market intelligence and best practices
  • Perform multi-dimensional sensitivities on capital metrics and analyzes results
  • Identify, lead and execute capital optimization initiatives in collaboration with various stakeholders across the Bank
  • Perform and communicate quantitative analyses related to capital implications of business strategies, transactions, capital initiatives, stress testing, financial crisis plans, and regulatory and accounting changes
  • Assist in the Capital Planning and Forecasting process through crafting high-impact presentation decks for leaders and stakeholders
  • Perform periodic monitoring of the capital floor (standardized risk weighted assets) with insightful variance analysis on business drivers to senior management
  • This position’s deliverables have high visibility with senior executives. They also form the basis for proactive decision-making related to the Bank’s capital activities.

What will you do?

Capital Analytics & Forecasting:

Supports FRO VP, Senior Director, Director and business lines on several capital and performance related analytics, assessment of regulatory and business initiatives and ad-hoc requests to executive committees:

  • Perform insightful data-driven analysis and visualization to explain drivers of period over period movement on capital and related ratios and metrics
  • Monitor the Bank’s capital floor with variance analysis on standardized risk weighted assets (RWA)
  • Assist in the capital planning and forecasting processes
  • Perform dividend analytics and analyze impact on key metrics that facilitates dividend recommendation
  • Assesses the impacts of business strategies and transactions, capital actions and future regulatory and accounting changes on regulatory capital position and related KPIs
  • Analyzes and responds to periodic and/or ad-hoc requests, reports and reviews requested by management, regulators and businesses
  • Maintains robust and up-to-date playbook and impact assessment of stress testing and Recovery and Resolution Plan management actions
  • Leads the preparation, estimation, forecasting and benchmarking of RBC’s G-SIB score and drivers

Automation and Data Visualization:

  • Design and implement automation solutions using AI for various analytics and reports
  • Monitor and refine automation workflows to ensure accuracy
  • Create visually engaging PowerPoint decks for executives on Capital results and forecasts
  • Translate complex ideas into clear narrative and visuals, tailored to target audience
  • Translate raw data into clear visual narratives for executive presentations and reports
  • Identify inefficiencies in current processes and propose/implement actionable improvements

Capital Insights & Optimization:

  • Performs analytics to identify capital optimization opportunities to build our optimization pipeline and ensure capital efficiency. This involves analyzing data and rules, with technical support from the capital measurement, product leads and business solutions teams
  • Performs deep-dive insightful data analytics on positional and portfolio capital requirements and trends to identify and remediate inefficiencies
  • Collaborates with various stakeholders in FRO and Group Risk Management to ensure timely and effective implementation of optimization initiatives
  • Provides technical support and guidance to internal stakeholders on capital optimization initiatives in partnership with capital measurement team and parameter estimation team in Group Risk Management
  • Research & Benchmarking:
  • Research best practices through benchmarking with peers and seek market intelligence on capital optimization actions
  • Delivers process enhancements through automation and use of generative AI to increase efficiencies in current reporting processes
  • Leads the preparation, production and review of periodic capital analytics and benchmarking reports (Pillar 3 benchmarking and scenarios, G-SIB, Capital Metrics, etc.)
  • Provides meaningful insights on drivers of major differences among the banks’ capital profile, requirement and composition
  • Liaises with stakeholders regarding data quality, reporting inquiries and drivers
  • Identifies opportunities to improve processes, drive efficiencies and enhance internal controls

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or greater (e.g. Business, Accounting, etc.)
  • Data mining and visualization skills (Tableau, Python programming, SQL, data cleaning and preparation)
  • Storytelling with data
  • Advanced skills in building impactful presentations
  • Accounting designation such as CPA (CA) and/or CFA, FRM
  • 2 years+ progressive experience in a related field
  • Excellent research and analytical skills
  • Strong team player and communication skills
  • Proven strong ability to work across business platforms
