**Position:**Director Food Security and Climate Resilient Food Systems
**Position Description:**The Director Food Security and Climate Resilient Food Systems is a Canada-based position supporting Alinea program of international development consulting to governments, non-governmental organizations and the private sector in Canada and globally. The position will provide leadership, management and technical expertise to ongoing projects and programs while supporting business development to expand Alinea programming in the area of food security, agri-food systems transformation, and One Health aligned with market opportunities and thematic areas of food security, climate change, natural resource management, land use management and planning, gender equality and inclusion, sustainable agriculture development, economic development and trade, digital transformation, and related technical areas.
Job Duties:
- Project delivery:
-
Manage contract compliance and client relations; provide leadership to international, multi-disciplinary teams; manage stakeholder relations; ensure the implementation of all Alinea policies and methodologies; integrate gender equality, human rights, environmental and climate change cross-cutting themes; manage budgets and deploy resources appropriately to achieve contract deliverables and development outputs and immediate, intermediate and ultimate objectives; and, manage monitoring, evaluation and learning programs to support adaptive management and validation of project results.

Provide technical assistance and guidance to ongoing Alinea projects for food safety, food security; agri-food value chains, food systems transformation, One Health, climate change adaptation, agrifood sector policy, land use and natural resource management, and sector economic development, and other related technical support in the agri-food sector including aquaculture.

Enhancing Community Climate Options for Adaptation and Resilience in Mongolia (ECCO-FARM) project: support project delivery with both technical and management expertise. Provide value-chain analysis and strategy for local economic development and integration into domestic and international markets. Identify and promote trade opportunities for Mongolian and Canadian agrifood companies. Promote women’s participation and leadership in value chains and producer-based organizations. Identify sources of financing for local value chain development and gender responsive climate change adaptation including green loans and targeted grants. Develop and oversee local governance and financial management procedures for small grants and payment for ecosystem services payments. Provide management support to the project teams in Mongolia and Canada related to planning, operations and reporting. Support adaptive management by using regular monitoring and evaluation and learning to identifying strategies to improve delivery and project impact.

Provide input to enhance Alinea programming, expand networks and update database of technical resources for related programming and funding opportunities globally.

Ensure client program priorities and key objectives are incorporated into all related projects and programming.

Facilitate the exchange of best practice across Alinea programs to ensure unified and consistent delivery of management consulting services.

Enhance and expand Alinea international networks in the agri-food space and related resources, technical assistance and experts.

Identify and cultivate client relations in domestic and international markets.

Identify business opportunities for inclusion in Alinea pipelines.

Assist in developing concept notes and foresight planning for evolving opportunities in markets served by Alinea offices in Canada, the United Kingdom, Luxemburg and Australia.

Support proposal preparation by Alinea’s offices in Canada, the United Kingdom, Luxemburg and Australia by providing needed technical expertise.
**Terms of Employment:**Permanent, full-time
**Language of Work:**English
**Wage:**C$ 110,000-120,000

Skills Requirement and Education:
- Masters degree in agricultural economics or business administration
- At least five years of senior international project management experience is required including extensive experience in the following:
- Strengthening livestock and agricultural value chains, market systems, and rural livelihoods, focused on sustainability, resilience and the overall enabling environment.
- Addressing food insecurity system constraints through improved on-farm production, access to markets, financial services, disaster risk reduction and health and nutrition.
- Climate change adaptation and resilience through water and natural resource management and building community capacity to prepare for, manage and respond to shocks and stresses.
- Rangeland management, working with pastoralists to adopt adaptive grazing strategies and rehabilitate pastures through rotation and reintroduction of native species.
- Strengthening producer-based organizations through improved governance, management and financial capacity and increased participation of women in leadership positions and day-to-day management decisions.
- Enterprise development including facilitation and training to support access and effective utilization of commercial, green and micro finance loans to promote agricultural innovation and productivity improvements
- Agricultural extension and innovation strengthening including gender responsive training programs in good agriculture practices and climate smart technologies through government agencies, private sector entities and producer-based organizations.
- Improving rural fuel and lighting through improved cookstove and solar technology.
- Management of large international and interdisciplinary teams and consortia.
- Demonstrated change leadership to ensure strong team performance, responsive strategy and implementation as donor priorities and local dynamics shift.
- Extensive experience managing both small and multi-million dollar grant portfolios, ensuring compliance, financial accountability, and alignment with client regulations while strengthening local partner capacities.
- Experience in strategic planning and related program design and development.
- Strong communication and professional relationship management skills with donors, government officials and industry leaders.
- Experience with localization strategies, collaborating and coordinating closely with local stakeholders to ensure ownership and sustainability.
- Successful fundraising experience and/or proposal development.
- Regional experience in Africa, Asia and transitional states is required; experience in Mongolia would be an asset.
