Job Description:
Position Purpose summary:
The Food Security Workers assists the Program Manager - Food Services in the day-to-day operations of food recovery, preparation, procurement logistics, and kitchen programs. The incumbent is highly organized, an effective communicator, and a go-getter with the ability to work quickly in time-sensitive scenarios.
RESPONSIBILITIES and Accountabilities:
- Coordinate and/or oversee volunteers and assist the Program Manager – Food Services in food rescue, food donation procurement and distribution to community partners.
- Record, track, analyze and provide actionable insights on food rescue data.
- Lead volunteers and help with daily food donation organizing, measuring, packaging, and distributing of food hampers.
- Work with Program Manager – Food Services and volunteers to prepare meals and hampers for various programs.
- Assist with food procurement through partnership development and community outreach.
- Assist in special event planning regarding food logistics, abiding by provincial health guidelines.
- Ensure food safety, cleanliness, and sanitized premises.
- Collect and handle feedback from event attendees, program participants, and other community stakeholders in a professional manner.
- May assist in ideation and planning operations and logistics for the future Boundless Hope Cafe alongside the Program Manager - Food Services.
CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT
Governance Boards and Councils: N/A
Internal: Boundless Vancouver Mission Partners
External: External partners/social service agencies/donors.
MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY:
Reports directly to the Program Manager – Food Services.
No direct reports to this role. May provide general supervision to volunteers or students.
May demonstrate work methods to new and current volunteers.
FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:
- May receive monetary or gift-in-kind donations and process to Operations Manager according to operating policies.
- Material responsibility (proper handling/safekeeping of donations, some access to confidential information).
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The incumbent’s work environment is typically in the food storage area and kitchen.
The incumbent works in generally agreeable conditions, with the following exceptions:
- Dealing with angry and abusive people
- Temperature variations
- Equipment and general office noise
- Frequent standing and lifting of objects up to 50lbs.
Exposure to Hazards:
The incumbent may be exposed to the risk of minor harm, injury, or illness due to:
- Physical attacks by others
- Exposure to infectious diseases
- Other potentially dangerous situations

education and experience Qualifications:
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
- Highschool graduate with some community college training in a related field.
- Class 5 driver’s license is an asset.
NOTE: An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:
- Experience working with marginalized communities.
- Experience working in a multi-cultural social services environment, an asset.
- Experience with event planning, an asset.
- Experience in customer service.
- Current knowledge of issues and trends including best practices in the enhancement of quality of life and food security.
- Demonstrated leadership ability and highly developed interpersonal, communication, multitasking, and time management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to establish and maintain positive relationships with community partners.
- Able to work with a team consisting of staff and volunteers in a busy, fast-paced environment.
Skills and Capabilities:
- Ability to adapt and prioritize many different tasks and initiatives.
- Quick learner & self-starter.
- Able to perform moderate lifting (50 lbs.) and physical labour for long periods.
- Ability to utilize related equipment such as various word processing including MS Office applications and email.
- Empathetic individual with the ability to work cooperatively, patiently, and effectively with others.
- Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $19.93 to $24.91 with a maximum of $29.89.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
