A vacancy exists in the Regulatory Affairs & Risk Management department at our Victoria Street location for the position of Senior Risk, Compliance & Strategic Initiatives Specialist.
This position reports to the Director, Regulatory Affairs & Risk Management, and supports the refinement, monitoring and reporting, and continuous improvement of the organization’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework. This role is responsible for supporting the organization’s privacy management program and ensuring compliance with applicable privacy legislation, regulations and internal policies. This role also supports enterprise-wide strategic initiatives and priority projects on behalf of senior leadership on an ad-hoc basis as required, including, but not limited to, corporate strategic and business plans.
Skills/Abilities
- Advanced presentation skills and comfort with public speaking at all levels of the organization, including Executive team and Boards of Directors.
- Advanced MS Office skills.
- Ability to simplify complex legal concepts, use clear language and tailor content for different roles.
- Ability to tailor training to address how different departments handle data.
- Advanced communication abilities.
- Ability to influence and persuade stakeholders, drawing on strong leadership skills.
- Advanced communication, facilitation and training‑design skills, including the ability to tailor content for departmental data practices, engage stakeholders at all organizational levels and influence decisions through expert guidance.
- Ability to establish strong relationships with internal stakeholders from all business groups and departments.
- Remain up to date on industry trends and legal changes, and update training based on new knowledge.
- Ability to manage competing deadlines and priorities.
- Ability to plan, prioritize and execute multiple projects and initiatives within established timelines.
Knowledge/Education
- Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in business administration from 4-year University or College; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Accounting designation (CPA) or in progress considered an asset.
- Master of Business Administration degree considered an asset.
- Intermediate knowledge of the Ontario Electricity Distribution industry and the regulations and codes governing it.
- Intermediate knowledge of industry trends and economic factors is considered an asset.
- Advanced knowledge of Enterprise Risk Management frameworks and methodologies.
- Advanced understanding of relevant data privacy laws in Canada such as PIPEDA, MFIPPA and other applicable regulations, including rights (consent, access, deletion) and responsibilities.
- Basic knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety requirements as they relate to individual, organizational and operational requirements.
Experience
- 4 - 6 years of progressive experience in enterprise risk management, regulatory compliance, privacy management, governance or a related analytical field.
- Experience in a utility regulatory environment considered an asset.
Major (Primary) Responsibilities
-**Enterprise Risk Management:**Supports the refinement, monitoring and reporting, and continuous improvement of the organization’s Enterprise Risk Management framework. Support business units, senior leadership and the Board to identify, assess, monitor and report on key enterprise, operational, regulatory, financial and strategic risks. Strengthening risk culture, governance and decision-making across the organization. -**Privacy Policy:**Support the organization’s privacy management program. Ensure compliance with applicable privacy legislation, regulations and internal policies. Provide subject-matter expertise on privacy risk, personal information handling, breach management and privacy impact assessments. Collaborate with business units, Information Technology and senior leadership to embed privacy-by-design into organizational processes and systems. -**Special Projects:**Support enterprise-wide strategic initiatives and priority projects on behalf of senior leadership. Coordinate, analyze and deliver high-quality documents such as strategic plans, business plans, presentations and other reports and documents to support executive decision-making and Board reporting. -**Safety:**Support Corporate Occupational Health and Safety initiatives by incorporating safe work practices into daily routine. Be responsible for own work and the work and safety of staff within his/her jurisdiction or if under their supervision/care. -**Cybersecurity:**Complete the regularly scheduled cybersecurity awareness training. Maintain an awareness of the sensitivity of the data within the work environment. Keep passwords private. Report changes in user status. Report suspected security violations. Follow staff reporting structure to communicate if any concerns/issues/risks are identified. Follow physical security protocols.
Salary Range: $105,630 - $132,040 per year
