The Position:
This position is a term Project Manager and Research Technician position, working on a NSERC Alliance Grant research project funded for five years. End date of position is 17-December-2027. The primary job duties for the Project Manager and Research Technician will include assisting in the execution of a field monitoring plan to evaluate the influence of linear features (roads, well pads) on the hydrology and hydrometeorology of a wetland complex within an in-situ oil sands facility north of Fort McMurray, Alberta. This position will involve extensive logistics (e.g., Environment, Health and Safety Requirements) and fieldwork during the spring and summer seasons, and meticulous data management, analyses and reporting during the fall and winter seasons. The incumbent will function as a liaison between our University research team and the Industry partners.
Qualifications:
- M.Sc. Degree in Science or Engineering (completed or in-progress preferred) or an Honours Undergraduate Degree in Physical Geography or Environmental Science with relevant work/field experience, with an emphasis in hydrology and hydroclimatology;
- Micrometeorology, hydrology, and field research experience is essential;
- Training in Eddy Covariance theory and application is a requirement for this position;
- Experience managing hydrological and meteorological datasets and proficiencies with database organization and maintenance, including eddy covariance datasets;
- Excellent analytical and computer skills (proficiency in GIS and statistical computing and graphics software is an asset; training in analysing eddy covariance datasets is a requirement);
- Experience in writing technical and progress reports;
- Excellent communication skills (demonstrated by oral and poster presentations);
- Keen interest in writing scientific publications an asset;
- Familiar with snow, snowmelt and topographic surveys; surveying experience an asset;
- Basic knowledge of soil science;
- Experience training and supervising junior staff is an asset;
- Driving required, a class 5 license is mandatory.
