Our Environmental Services Group (ESG) provides our clients with expertise in climate change , environmental assessment & management, noise & vibration, social impact management, sustainable development design, and water resources. Looking to get the most out of your upcoming internship?
Hatch is seeking a highly motivated Environment, People and Places (EP&P) Intern with interests in urban planning and design, transportation, geography, and economics for a 4-month internship starting in Winter 2026. Reporting to the Regional Director, EP&P, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with other planners, designers, engineers, architects, and economists across our global offices, while working from our Mississauga location.

As Part Of The EP&P Team, You Will
- Be given opportunities to contribute to complex projects around the world in meaningful ways.
- Work on problems and gain experience relevant to your field of study in an office environment.
- Collaborate with diverse teams locally and globally.
- Work in an exciting environment where you can apply your academic learning on a daily basis.
- Gain experience both in the office and on-site, as projects permit;
- Benefit from informal mentorship from some of the leading minds in urban development and design in Canada and internationally;

Your Responsibilities Will Include
- Contributing to projects, from ideation and proposals to delivery and completion;
- Applying and developing knowledge in various EP&P areas, including transit-oriented development, urban planning and design, mobility solutions, and sustainability;
- Preparing technical documents and reports, including writing, mapping, and visualizations;
- Performing and circulating news scans to keep yourself and the team up-to-date on relevant events;
- Presenting your work to relevant team members and clients; and
- Assisting leadership, managers, and colleagues as needed, etc.
Your Educational And Experiential Qualifications Should Include
- Enrollment in Urban Planning, Urban Design, Transportation Planning, Economics, Civil Engineering, Business, Geography, or a relevant program from an accredited university;
- Good academic standing;
- Interest in urban and transit development as a career;
- Extracurriculars and knowledge or experience in a consultancy environment undertaking urban development projects will be considered an asset.
Competencies you should possess to be successful in this role include:
- Ability to think critically and creatively to create solutions for our clients’ toughest challenges;
- Quick learning and interest to take on new challenges;
- Collaboration and being a team player with excellent interpersonal skills;
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to accuracy and detail;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Strong mathematical and data analysis skills (including using Excel); and
- Strong design skills (including AutoCAD, Adobe Illustrator and InDesign), etc.
- Performing geospatial analyses using GIS software will be considered an asset.
