Senior Financial Analyst, Policy and Reporting
About the role
Under the general direction of the Director, Finance, the Senior Financial Analyst, Policy and Reporting, is a key member of the Finance management team. The incumbent plays a strategic role in the safeguarding of university assets, strengthening compliance to financial policies, ensuring reliable reporting and meeting regulatory financial reporting and tax requirements.
The incumbent is responsible for the developing, implementing and monitoring compliance to financial policies and processes, ensuring a high standard of internal controls. The incumbent develops and prepares key management reports that inform senior management and facilitate compliance to financial policies across the university.
The incumbent supports the Director, Finance in government reporting originating from the Finance Department and the tax compliance function for the university and the related entities.
The incumbent is expected to establish clear lines of communication and close working relationships with staff in other departments in the University. The incumbent provides training and guidance to staff across the university, leads process improvement projects and participates as a team member in cross-department system and process implementation projects.
Job Requirements
- Recognized professional accounting designation (CGA, CA, CMA) or MBA with concentration in finance and accounting.
- Five years experience in financial planning, accounting operations, internal audit and/or financial systems with increasing levels of managerial, administrative and operational responsibilities and accountabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to design and manage financial processes at the organization level for medium-size to large organizations.
- Audit experience and/or experience in implementing best practices.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), including the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of types of staff at different levels in the organization or externally. Ability to communicate technical concepts and information to non-technical staff in a manner that can be easily understood.
- Collaborative leadership and coaching abilities. Demonstrated ability to supervise and mentor staff.
- Ability to train/coach non-financial staff throughout the organization in financial management policies, procedures and techniques.
- Ability to prioritize activities and tasks for the department and handle multiple and conflicting deadlines.
- Ability to anticipate, manage and plan for change.
- Demonstrated conflict resolution and teambuilding skills.
- Excellent organizational, quantitative, analytical reasoning and problem-solving skills.
- Results oriented. Shows ability to surpass previous accomplishments with a philosophy of continuous improvement.
Additional Information
This is a regular, full-time position working 37.5 hours per week. This position has been evaluated at MPT-D with a salary range of $84,423 (minimum) to $99,223 (midpoint) to $114,023 (maximum) per annum. Employment offers will normally be made between the minimum and midpoint of the range and are determined by knowledge, experience and internal equity.
